In the 80s there were tons of media stories about 'sudden acceleration syndrome' involving Audi 5000s and later other cars.

The US department of Transport conducted an extensive multi-million dollar study only to find it was all a bunch of really stupid people who had confused the brake with the gas pedal.

When this subject first came up, it's what I thought of. Nearly all the cases involved drivers over 60 too.

Of course it was. If you were in debt up to your eyeballs you'd take a bribe to pretend your car was on the fritz too.

You see a rash of "accelerator" problems every time a compact vehicle appeals to older customers WHO NORMALLY DRIVE FULL SIZED CARS.

The slightly smaller area for the drivers legs results in drivers accidentally hitting BOTH pedals at the same time with one foot.

Many older drivers start using the center of their foot to hit the brakes due to arthritis

They go to touch the brake pedal and the toe of their foot hits the arm of the gas pedal ...when they push down harder on the brake they wind up also flooring the accelerator.

Its still a design flaw , Toyota should have moved the pedals farther apart , but instead put them as close together as regulations would allow in order to free up room to give the left leg a more comfortable position.

Maybe we are seeing economic war. I believe it would be relatively simple to develop a device to intercept wireless toyota prius acclerator pedal signals and override them with any desired input. All one would need to do, is to go to random locations in the US, and randomly interfere with Prius accelerator signals. This causes major distrust in Toyota and causes people to support Ford GM etc...
Similar types of things have been going on between airbus and boeing....

I drive a 2009 Toyota Prius. It is hands down the best vehicle I have ever owned. The handling and fuel efficiency are top notch and it's fun to drive! I drove a 2007 Mercedes prior to my Prius, much more expensive all around, fuel, maintenance, etc. I feel great about driving a reliable, fuel effecient car which lessens my carbon footprint. When I need to fuel up it costs me around $27.00 these days to fill my tank. I see all these dinosaur SUV's around town usually with just one driver in them and I think what a waste. These people are paying through the nose every time they fuel up just to drive a giant car around. I wish more people would realize that oversize everythingin America is not always a good thing...

Lessens your "carbon footprint" ?

The Prius is WORSE THAN A HUMMER

[link to fallbackbelmont.blogspot.com]

So much more pollution is generated in its manufacturing process ( the batteries are the culprit) you'd have to drive it 15 years before you MATCHED the carbon footprint of a Hummer driven the same number of miles .....oh wait , the batteries have to be replaced every 10 years.

The majority of pollution and co2 emissions a car will generate over a 10 year period happen before its ever driven....its the manufacturing process.

An enormous amount a CO2 and pollution for the steel

An enormous amount of CO2 and pollution to manufacture , transport and assemble to components

If you're concerned about pollution and your "Carbon Footprint", the Prius IS THE WORST POSSIBLE CHOICE.
