Anonymous Coward User ID: 300884 Sweden 06/15/2013 10:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in Texas which is big pickup truck country. I have a big gas-guzzling SUV for towing the boat or for moving large loads and I recently bought a used Prius. I bought the Prius after talking to a guy at a gas station that drove from Austin to Dallas and back (7 hr drive) on less than 1 tank of gas. While I admit the Prius looks like some kind of a space vehicle it is pretty peppy especially in power mode and of course the gas mileage is fantastic. While a normal week of driving the SUV would cost me $100 in gas, the same would be less than $30 in the Prius. What I don't get is all the people that give me funny looks when I'm driving it as if I was some kind of a hippie vegetarian or something. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2558999 I've gotten over 51 MPG and I'm spending about $250 less a month on gas! Why all the strange looks from people? I'm not even an American, and even I can see your problem right there! |

Full electric transmission, like a locomotive. Powers out? You can run your house off it using engine as a generator. Or charge it off your solar array when suns out. Want to get the xtrux, but its a while before its on the market. |

He's now driving a Tesla and loves that even more. Granted, he's not in Texas, though, and the Tesla was a pricy bit of automobile, but he enjoys it immensely. |

Pay attention, you'll notice two types of cars that the drivers drive very slow in...Subarus and Prius's. They might be staring at you because you're slow. Also, I heard the batteries have to be replaced every few years and are very expensive to replace. So, if you compare gas $ savings to the battery $ costs. You really aren't saving money. But, people fell for the scam anyways :) |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1721958 United States 06/15/2013 10:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Let's see your Prius is charged from an outlet who's electricity comes from a coal fired plant. And that coal strip-mined using large petrol burning earth moving equipment & then shipped on petrol burning trucks & trains to the electrical generation facility. It's batteries are comprised of materials that are very harmful to the environment strip-mined in South America using petrol burning earth moving equipment & then shipped to Australia on oil/coal burning cargo ships where it is turned into a battery & then shipped to Japan & America on petrol/coal burning cargo ships. Your one Prius is way more harmful to the environment than a dealership lot full of Dodge Rams. |

This will all be paid for by you. Enjoy driving your money-pit, OP. |

One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one. Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway.
