Look around for a place that specializes in Prius battery repair. They can often replace a few offending cells and restore the pack to full capacity. That seems a more reasonable than replacing the battery. |

I've heard that it's not usually the cells that go bad, but the metal buss bars that interconnect them. I read a blog post a while back about some guy in the same situation who removed his battery and discovered that the bus bars were covered in green oxidation. He (very carefully), took them off and cleaned up the bars and mounting studs, and the battery was as good as new. Use your google-fu to hunt it down. But be careful if you attempt it. Unless you know what you are doing, you might fry yourself. |

another option is a used battery from Craiglist [ link to chambersburg.craigslist.org (secure)] Good tip JamesB, about the bus bars. A battery specialist could also fix that problem when doing the rebuild. |
