[quote:Anne O'Mally:MV8xOTM0MTMzXzMyMzk4MjQwXzcyMjVCRDI=] [quote:Anonymous Coward 17008745:MV8xOTM0MTMzXzMyMzk3ODg4X0YwQjgwOTZD] [quote:Anne O'Mally:MV8xOTM0MTMzXzMyMzk2OTY1X0E5RjQ1NTBE] would really like someone to explain to me how global warming is a myth.
Okay. Greenland isn't the whole world. Maybe some ice melted in Greenland. That doesn't mean the whole world has warmed up. So it's not "global warming", it's "some ice melted in Greenland". Secondly, just because some ice melted in Greenland doesn't prove that the "global warming theory" is correct. Ice melted in Greenland well before the Industrial Revolution, that's why it's called "Greenland". Vikings used to live there, raise cattle, and grow crops. You can't raise cattle or grow crops on a sheet of ice. There might well be some OTHER reason for Greenland ice melting than "people released carbon dioxide, that warmed up the whole planet to warm up, and melted the ice in Greenland". Maybe it's as simple as "there was a big ice age which ended a few thousand years ago, and since then the planet has been warming up". But saying something like that is considered HERESY in the Church of Global Warming, so that's why you don't hear people saying it much.
now, for the most part i agree. i do NOT think that cars and factories caused all this. however, i DO think we are seeing some unprecedented changes, and whether those are related to volcanoes or fires or CO2 or whatever, i can't say i know enough to make that call. i don't think the answer is as simple as 'carbon monoxide' though. i mean, one supervolcano can set off an ice age...what about the many volcanoes we've had going off lately? cumulative effect of that and other factors? what do you tink would be the factors, if not 'global warming?' if you read the articles the 'scientists' say that every 150 years this is 'normal,' but are shocked by THIS particular 97% event, as it is almost double expected average for the 150 year cycle. Extent of surface melt over Greenland’s ice sheet on July 8 (left) and July 12 (right). Measurements from three satellites showed that on July 8, about 40 percent of the ice sheet had undergone thawing at or near the surface. In just a few days, the melting had dramatically accelerated and an
estimated 97 percent of the ice sheet surface had thawed by July 12.
In the image, the areas classified as “probable melt” (light pink) correspond to those sites where at least one satellite detected surface melting. The areas classified as “melt” (dark pink) correspond to sites where two or three satellites detected surface melting. The satellites are measuring different physical properties at different scales and are passing over Greenland at different times. As a whole, they provide a picture of an extreme melt event about which scientists are very confident. Credit: Nicolo E. DiGirolamo, SSAI/NASA GSFC, and Jesse Allen, NASA Earth Observatory
