If you claim to be a Christian and you are living a comfortable life, then you can not possibly be following the teachings of Jesus.

If people who currently claim to be Christians actually took the time to read the New Testament and actually listened to Jesus and what he taught there would be very few willing to follow Him. Jesus said you must deny yourself and pick up your cross, be willing to leave behind your riches, family, friends, and be willing to die for Him tomorrow. If you follow Jesus, you will have to suffer. All this feel good crap taught in Christian churches is just to boost attendance and raise money for whatever the church feels fit. If they taught what it really means to follow Christ most of the churches would be empty on Sunday.
A follower of Jesus must be willing to let go of:
Earthly security.
Earthly Ties.
and
Earthly distractions.
If you claim to be a Christian and you are living a comfortable life, then you can not possibly be following the teachings of Jesus. You are only in it for self serving reasons. If loving/helping others is not keeping you from doing the things you want to do in you life, then you are not doing nearly enough. Jesus sacrificed his life for us and suffered tremendously before it was taken. Surely Christians can sacrifice some of their worldly possessions and desires for our brothers and sisters.
There are so many false prophets preaching this feel good gospel by cherry picking verses about how grand your life will be if you accept Jesus as your savior when in reality, your life will in all likelihood take a turn for the worse if you choose to do so. It depends on if the individual takes the teachings of Jesus seriously or if they conform to the ways of the world as most do.
You will have to suffer in this life if you decide to be a follower of Jesus. While we will all fall short, I dare any of you on this forum to take the words of Jesus seriously. Even if you only do a half ass job you will make a difference in the world.
