The final prophecies had not yet been fulfilled. Only in THIS generation, has the very final prophecies come into fruition. The Gospel has reached almost all of the earth. Jesus said: "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached into all the world, as a witness unto the nations, and THEN the end shall come." Pretty bold statement, don't ya think? He said it with AUTHORITY. He never said "might" be preached. Or "could" be preached. Or "should" be preached. All of the groundwork has been laid for another end times prophecy, known as "The Mark of the Beast". Only in OUR generation has this even become POSSIBLE. Not only possible, but INEVITABLE. So these previous generations that you mock and make fun of. Well, they obviously didn't know the scriptures, or they certainly didn't understand the scriptures. If they did, then they would have known that it was impossible for Christ to return back then. But to the foolish OP, I want to thank him for fulfilling yet another end times prophecy: "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished. But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved to fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness, but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." 2nd Peter 3:3-10
