It's a hard decision. If you don't have the note yet then that might buy you a bit more time.
Thank you, and that's exactly my hope. A little more time to think about this major life decision. I sent the email and requested a return date of Monday, January 6th. I need the additional time. I'm so nervous about the reply I will receive. It hurts financially, but it's worth it when it comes to health. Gotta stay alive and all. : )
I get it, I'm somewhat in the same boat. Finally feel like making a fair salary w/this job, but the stress and frustration the leadership (and other things) causes isn't worth it. Hence, I've made the decision to ultimately go another direction, which I am slowly figuring out the logistics on. It will be a somewhat slow process, but I will say that just having made the decision that this organization is not for me released some stress right off the bat. I seriously noticed a difference right away, and that lower stress in turn helped my overall attitude and mood at work. Plus, now I look at it as temporary vs. indefinite, which also helps. Perhaps you can do the same - stay at your job for now, but with the commitment to start a serious job search after the holidays with full intent of leaving. That way you don't have the added financial stress of quitting before you find something else. Because there's no way to know if you'll find a job immediately or in 9 months. Not sure if you can take that risk. Your stress level and health are of utmost importance, but the reality is that you have to pay bills and keep a roof over your head. Good luck, I hope you boss has replied positively (or will) to your email.
My husband is always saying "it is easier to find a job when you have a job."
I accidentally deleted the OP of this thread during some glitch issues on GLP this morning (10/30/17).
I will be posting some useful links in the next post to make it easier for those posting so you don't have to scroll through a massive OP. :)
I had to delete the first two comments on this thread to do so, but wanted to keep them so I've put them below.

I also would like to mention that I know this thread has MANY pages and that it can be somewhat intimidating to join/chime in on a long standing thread as a new member/AC (I've experienced it when I first joined GLP), but we are a VERY welcoming group to those who newly join us. We are a small family of sorts who are all mostly interested in the same earth-related topics (quakes/solar/volcanoes/weather/etc.) and share info on each of those topics as well as 'off-topic' discussions. We genuinely care for one another here and even when we do not agree with each other, we ALWAYS respect each other.
I truly enjoy when new folks join us here. All that I ask is to show respect. :)
