I'll make something tomorrow! It smells really good though. :)
Simple, if you've never made caramels before, I recommend doing a trial batch before using your special butter. Caramels are tricky and require an accurate candy thermometer. It's a very fine line between getting it it to the right temperature, and burning it. I would hate for you to burn a batch and that butter go to waste. If you end up not doing caramels, I would make something you can freeze. Cookies or brownies, maybe. Then you have some edibles in the freezer you can take out one at a time when you're in the mood.
Ahhhh, thank you for the caramel advice! I will heed it! Very valid points and I do not have a candy thermometer. I've tried to get one numerous times locally recently but they're always sold out. Might have to check Amazon. Also a great plan to make something freezable! I think I'm gonna go with chocolate chip cookies. It's hot out there (and in here) today though, so I'm waiting until things cool down tonight before putting the oven on. But tonight is the night! :5a:
I think chocolate chip is a good choice. Always delicious, and they freeze well. I happen to have a fond memory of a pot-butter chocolate chip cookie. My friend found it in his freezer. It was the last one of a batch he had made long before, and he didn't even realize there were any left. He found it as I was picking him up to head to the Cardinals home opener, so we split it before heading out. A while later that thing started kicking in, and it was the most perfect buzz all day long. AND it was the home opener (like a holiday here), AND it was perfect weather, AND it was an exciting game with multiple home runs, AND we beat the Cubs. It's one of those days I'd like to relive - very Ferris Bueller like. That is so weird you can't find a candy thermometer, WTH?? I guess in addition to baking bread, everyone is now getting into candy making too?
I accidentally deleted the OP of this thread during some glitch issues on GLP this morning (10/30/17).
I will be posting some useful links in the next post to make it easier for those posting so you don't have to scroll through a massive OP. :)
I had to delete the first two comments on this thread to do so, but wanted to keep them so I've put them below.

I also would like to mention that I know this thread has MANY pages and that it can be somewhat intimidating to join/chime in on a long standing thread as a new member/AC (I've experienced it when I first joined GLP), but we are a VERY welcoming group to those who newly join us. We are a small family of sorts who are all mostly interested in the same earth-related topics (quakes/solar/volcanoes/weather/etc.) and share info on each of those topics as well as 'off-topic' discussions. We genuinely care for one another here and even when we do not agree with each other, we ALWAYS respect each other.
I truly enjoy when new folks join us here. All that I ask is to show respect. :)
