It flows to the east hence the dirty beaches in Mississippi and Dauphin Island, AL. The rivers flowing into Mobile Bay deflect the dirty Mississippi River silt, hence why you have the whiter beaches from Baldwin County/Gulf Shores AL all the way through Florida. Galveston beaches are ugly because of the Houston ship channel and all ships constantly churning up the mud and them spilling their fuel in the canal as well that washes up on Galveston beaches. The prettier beaches are further south in Corpus and Padre.
Original Message
Someone took me on vacation to Galveston, and got pissed off at me because I said these beaches are disgusting. Texas is no good for beaches. I would rather spend the extra and fly to Florida.
