[quote:Anonymous Coward 62646517:MV8zMjcyMDI0XzY2MTYxNjk3XzdEMzQxMDRB] [quote:Sarah Langley:MV8zMjcyMDI0XzU4NDk1Mjc0X0ZFRjgyOTI5] I don't know. And I tried to figure it out. I worked side by side with people of color all day long and never see racism in my part of America. I work hard for what I have and so do they. Where is this racism? I only hear people who don't want to work whining.
It's right under the surface. My next door neighbor turned best friend shared beers late at night for literally years. As time went on, I saw it come out. It took a long time for him to show his true feelings but eventually it came out. We're still fake friends but I lost a lot of respect for him. His girlfriend was Puerto Rican and she would spill the beans after 2 beers every time but he played his cards close to his chest for about 5 years. Around the peak BLM time- I guess '15ish- it finally happened. I never said anything derogatory, I simply said "I think there is a lot more going on than what we're seeing on TV". He jumped to the stance of "Yeah, years of abuses directed at the black community." I looked at him and said "Bro, don't let the media do your things for you" and he went off. It was fuck the police this and that and yadda yadda. This is a guy btw who lacked a college degree and was promoted to the highest management position in a well known Bay Area company, mind you. He starting telling me how blacks had to work 20x harder for everything and I just laughed. I politely let him know that I had a decade of work experience, graduated with a 3.5 from and public U and was struggling to find a job that payed 10k less than him a year..
