They not only shut down all the borders (land, sea and air) but they shut down all domestic flights as well, all buses, the metro... no one is on the road. Going out will subject you to police on a power trip questioning your motives (one person per family is allowed out and only to buy food, only for a few hours and only certain days per week). ... <snip>
WE just moved back to the states after being in Central America for years (Guatemala). What I can't get over is the fact that the locals think they are hiding from like a person or something. Also, the government of Guatemala has everyone convinced that catching Corona is a death sentence. Is it the same there?
The government is taking it seriously but most Colombians don’t think it’d a big deal. Thus the heavy handed government measures - they tried to ask people to stay home and it didn’t work. Last Monday was a holiday and loads of people tried to hit the road for a long weekend. The government plan is: close the borders and do a mandatory, national quarantine for 20 days. The idea is that any asymptomatic cases will manifest themselves during those 20 days and they and their family can be isolated. In theory, after the 20 days everyone with the virus in the country is isolated and the virus gets stamped out. The problem is 1) there’s too many exceptions and 2) you’d have to leave the borders closed indefinitely.
IDK. I'm thinking not. People in New York if they are woke and they can are getting the fuck out. Same with California.
This is not a Democrat/Republican thing. This is what this fear agenda has set in motion.
Your freedom to move about freely has been seriously compromised and it may likely get worse.
This is beyond food and toilet paper. There is a feeling of dread that looms over the collective.
