@MasielloCameron

The coastline of SW Louisiana, especially points east of the landfall point, are undoubtedly permanently changed. Salt water inundation as a result of storm surge clearly seen on satellite many miles inland from hurricane #Laura in Cameron Perish.

@TropicalTidbits

New recon aircraft is measuring surface winds of 150-155 mph in the northeastern eyewall of Hurricane #Laura, very close to Category 5 intensity.

@MJVentrice
now

#HurricaneLaura's maximum sustained winds have increased from 75mph to 140mph in the past 24hr. That's ties the record for the largest 24hr rate of intensification (65 mph in 24 hr) for a tropical cyclone o/the Gulf of Mexico (Karl in 2010). Historical stats via @philklotzbach

NHC updated info:

Upto 20 feet of storm surge

Unsurvivable storm surge with large and destructive waves will causecatastrophic damage from Sea Rim State Park, Texas, to IntracoastalCity, Louisiana, including Calcasieu and Sabine Lakes. This surge could penetrate up to 40 miles inland from the immediate coastline, and flood waters will not fully recede for several days after the storm.

With #Laura now expected to be a major hurricane at landfall, a storm surge of up to 13 feet is expected in SE Texas and the marshes of Louisiana.

@RyanMaue

ECMWF 12z arrived even stronger at 937 mb pressure which is typical of Category 4+ hurricanes.

Landfall just east of Galveston Bay.

Very large size of Laura = potential for dangerous surge.

12z ECMWF shifts landfall up the coast and stronger. Landfall just NE of Galveston Bay.

Focus turns to Laura...

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78252602

Laura is certainly still working on organization but as you will notice, convective activity is increasing in more quadrants of the system while the center continue to stay offshore of Cuba. This continues to be bad news as an intact Laura is likely to strengthen quite quickly upon entering the gulf.

Deeper convection building up near the center, band north of Cuba still there, equatorward outflow looking healthy:
