NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The U.S. Postal Service is temporarily removing some mailboxes in at least 17 states and D.C. -- including the tri-state -- as a security measure to protect postal property, employees and the public, amidst threats surrounding Joe Biden's inauguration, according to the federal agency.

Mail collection will also be suspended at some mailboxes, as well.

"With the safety of customers and employees in mind and for the sanctity of the mail during the week of Jan. 16 - 21, 2021, Postal officials will seal or remove select Postal Service collection boxes,"
