What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." - Mark 10:8-9
It's one thing if it is your first marriage and you don't mind giving 1/2 your stuff to a spouse if there is a split. It's quite another thing to come in with a decent asset base, and end up giving everything to your new spouse and her kids should you die, and your kids get left out in the cold. I've seen this way too many times. You know, there are many Bible verses about the evils/foolishness of not planning financially (for your family), such as 1 Timothy 5-8. "But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." Yes, you have a responsibility in a prenup to take care of the spouse, but also your own family (and future generation). Without a prenup, much of that responsibility falls to an ex (widow/widower) who benefits from your earlier planning. Like they are going to take care of your kids from a previous marriage, or your parents? Heck, many won't even take care of their own kids and parents. If you don't want a prenup, it screams you are trying to screw over a future spouse for his/her money. Just that simple.
That's like saying it's ok to rob a bank to provide for your family. God says divorce is wrong/bad, then it's wrong/bad. It doesn't become justified or become good by applying some kind of utilitarian mental gymnastics. I will go by whst the Bible says, "...let no man separate." There are other ways to provide for your family without having to defy God. Trust God, not human machinations. "Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding." - Proverbs 3:5 If Bible says don't divorce, I trust that.
