Every young person at that time was like the protagonist in the movie Clueless. We were all philosophers. We were all different. We all respected the right of each other to be philosophers. I think you had to be of this exact age group (high school age in the 90s) to get it. To sum up, the 80s were too materialistic for me, but the 90s were the age of personal philosophy which I am all about and therefore prefer. I think it was about personal philosophy and self-expression most. I think that's apparent in the songs posted throughout this thread. I think it's also apparent in the most beloved song from the 90s. It just occurred to me that Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" isn't a Christmas song at all. It's a song about Carey's personal philosophy about Christmas and the importance of Christmas in her life. It's a philosophical statement (like most of the songs posted in this thread) and not a Christmas song. Women like this used to be everywhere in the 90s in America. I took it for granted, and these types are extinct now.
