One asked if he could pay me $100 to pull a catalytic converter from a vehicle sitting on our side yard, the other outright asking to buy a different vehicle. (we rarely drive it and it has a few cobwebs on it and he said he noticed them. I should also add we live in a quite neighborhood, off the beaten path on a dead-end street). As soon as they saw me answer (I'm a large (intimidating I've been told) male with vet plates on my vehicle) and we have a big-ass dog who barks when someone knocks- They can't seem to get out of here quick enough when they see me, sorta yelling their offer over their shoulder as they bail- I'm like wait, why don't you leave your number and I'll talk to thee wife about it...?" "Naw, I'm good man, I'm not from here" they both replied. -Well NO shit I thought. It was odd the first time and straight strange the second- If I didn't know better, I would think these guys were 'casing' my place or something. It used to be (10 years ago) you couldn't get a decent burrito to save your life around these parts. Now, the most common language I hear in the grocery store is Spanish, and many/most appear to be straight off the bus (still wearing the shit they bought in Mexico- Hecka short people with cowboy hats, boots, etc.) IDK... shit is getting weirder by the day here- they are also currently throwing-up a fucking FEMA camp in our small (under 10k pop) town, like a mile from our house- the SECOND one I might add. They say it is for victims of the fire, bu those were over a year ago now, so...? [/quote] Can you share some pictures of the FEMA camp/s, via imgur.com ? [/quote] Here you go: [imgur]https://imgur.com/AbQCkSY[/imgur] [imgur]https://imgur.com/SYOCcVW[/imgur] [imgur]https://imgur.com/iWtl448[/imgur] A nice new 5G tower about 2 hundred yards away to accompany them! [imgur]https://imgur.com/x2nBD6C[/imgur] [/quote] BG, Not being pushy, but you might just want to think about skedaddling the hell out of there. Just saying... Remember how the military takes over in EVERY SINGLE panademic slash disaster movie we've ever seen. Looks like you are at ground zero. But heh, wait a second, it might be advantageous to have soldiers nearby when the zombie bands start roaming around town. Could go either way... dunno [/quote] Yeah, been thinking the same- in both regards. Factor in that we have like 3 cops in this town, the Chief quit, around the time of the whole Floyd/BLM deal because the Mayor liked a FB post that said 'fuck the police" or some similar such nonsense. There also used to be a Walmart here, just off the freeway, that is now converted to a private business (with like 10 employees by the looks of it- HUGE building, very few vehicles outside) one of the communities that was razed to the ground last year was a big mobile home senior living estate that in essence connects to the back of this building- There has been NO building there as of yet (over a year after the fact)- which I find strange. I was thinking THAT might be the actual 'camp' and those 100 or so nice trailers are for the guards/admin.? IDK- the wife thinks I'm nuts, but I have been right about everything else! You can see the back of the old Walmart through the (unburned) trees. [imgur]https://imgur.com/37BGniw[/imgur] Some nice melted metal rims (they were everywhere) from a vehicle out in the open, with unburned shrubs and trees right next to them (nothing to see here!) Most of this shit is just now getting picked-up, a year later. [imgur]https://imgur.com/Y2SXKyd[/imgur] [/quote]

How are so many places understaffed when unemployment and eviction moratoriums are gone?
I don’t believe that many people are suddenly hiding now because of CoVid and not working just waiting to get evicted. Even fast food is paying $15 an hour in states where it’s not the mandatory minimum wage - and heroic grocery store workers stayed on the job at the height of the fear pandemic.
Why would all those people not be working now? What are all these mysterious ‘better jobs’ they left for?
Are the supply shortages really because so many people are MIA?
