[quote:MackeyMOAB:MV80OTI1NjM4XzkwMDI4NzgxXzlCRjg1RjYw] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burr%E2%80%93Hamilton_duel The Burr–Hamilton duel was fought at Weehawken, New Jersey, between Aaron Burr, the Vice President of the United States, and Alexander Hamilton, the first and former Secretary of the Treasury, on the morning of July 11, 1804. The duel was the culmination of a bitter rivalry that had developed between both men who had become high-profile politicians in postcolonial America. In the duel Burr fatally shot Hamilton, while Hamilton fired into a tree branch above and behind Burr's head. Hamilton was taken back across the Hudson River and died the following day in New York.[1] The death of Hamilton led to the permanent weakening of the Federalist Party and its demise in American domestic politics. It also effectively ended the political career of Burr, who was vilified for shooting Hamilton; he never held another high office after his tenure of Vice President ended in 1805. [/quote]

...Five men were taken into custody over the shootout, which required a SWAT team response and led to police finding more than 70 shell casings. One shooter was left dead and two of the suspects wounded.
The police source told the outlet that law enforcement sought murder and aggravated battery charges for all five suspects.
By Sunday morning, however, they were released without charges.
"Mutual combatants was cited as the reason for the rejection," a police report reviewed by the Chicago Sun Times said of the state attorney’s office’s decision. The report also noted that the suspects weren’t cooperating with investigators.

Can you imagine? Sitting in jail, being held on murder charges. Sunday morning a random guard shows up and tells you that you're free to go because the prosecutor is not pursuing charges.
What kind of message is this going to send to these and other gang members of Chicago? Even though the victims in this case were engaged in mutual combat, what about the community? Doesn't it have an interest in getting these suspects off the streets?
