[quote:Anonymous Coward 80864139:MV81MDA2NzgxXzkxNjU4NTg5Xzk0ODZGOUY5] Im on 1/8 acre in palm beach county and have raised 30 meat chickens, 6 hens, a turkey, a beehive, 500g aquaponics tanks with tilapia. multiple garden beds. 50+ different fruit trees with some Ive grafted with multiple varieties. I do have a nice lake behind the house thats connected to canals that run all through the county. Its loaded with fish. I also have a shadehouse/greenhouse where Im propagating 100s and 1000s of various tropical fruit trees. The plan was to get some property when I retired last year and start a small farm/nursery but prices shot up and now I await a market crash..Ive been practicing my farming skills for years. I have many books on raising every farm animal too! Im hoping the influx of new residents doesnt keep the prices elevated. [/quote]

Just curious - because it seems to me that there are as many "country folk" as "city dwellers" contributing to the discussions in GLP - which is unusual because most people do live in the city/suburbs/metros, more than in rural areas, in general - but I am always surprised at how many people contribute to "gardening" topics - which got me curious because most "family" gardens require more than a "yard" to produce enough food to can or store... and very few people garden anymore but these topics are always active.
