With no evidence for an ancient Mecca, and the earliest mosques not pointing either to Mecca or to Jerusalem but in fact the ancient city of Petra, the question is: Did islam start in Petra in ancient Edom? We know from the bible the edomites intermarried with the ishmaelites (arabs). What do muslims believe, and what conclusion can non-muslims that read the bible draw from this?
