I do have a handmill for course grinding corn. I could always run my grains through that first and then get it finer by hand. Also invested in a manual oil press. Still haven’t tried it out yet as I’ve been too distracted by other projects.
Do you have the Piteba oil press? They work great.
Yes!
I grow oilseed sunflowers, the Peredovik variety, and the Piteba does a great job on them. Don’t have to shell them first, the press takes care of that.
Sweet! Those would be great to grow where I live. How much do they produce?
Very prolific, lots of oil. Grow about 4 feet tall. Russian agronomists developed the strain in the 1950s. When they start to mature you need to net them, otherwise birds will take a great percentage of your crop. The leftover mash can be used to feed critters, they love it.
Not simply skills to survive but also, skills to thrive.
I’ve always had a passion for learning how to do/make things from scratch. I don’t just want to know how to bake bread. I want to grind my own flour and grow my own grain. I don’t just want to sew, crochet and knit. I want grow, process and spin my own fiber and weave my own cloth.
Use technology now, learn as much as you can of skills that have been (nearly) lost.
BTW, has anyone watched any basket weaving tutorials? I want to learn that next!
