I know there are folks from all over the planet that come here which I think makes this sight great, but my question is more focused on what will happen if things really do get bad here in America. Is there anybody, perhaps some prison guards that can shed some light on what if any protocols are in place in case of a major collapse of government or a nation wide natural disaster? I guess it would be interesting to know what would take place in other countries if something really bad were to happen.....

Well, that is one of the reasons I am asking this question. I live near a major prison and there are more not to far away.....Do they let them go, shoot-em, keep-em or what? I do know they have been letting out quite a few non violent offenders lately because of budget problems......

Who cares, in our society we do not care about people in jail when everything is "working", if the SHTF people care even less.

Some states have laws that allow the inmates to be released to join the military in the event of war. Those charged with murder, rape and a few other crimes are not included and will be serving out their sentences.

Re:
I think it depends on the local situation and people involved. Perhaps in some places the guards won't give a fuck and just leave all the prisoners locked into their cells, in which case they will probably all die. In some other places perhaps the guards are a bit more humanitarian, and will allow the prisoners to live, either by maintaining the prison's status quo, or just letting em go. Probably the really dangerous ones will be kept locked and die, while the petty thieves and white collar crime types will get to walk

What about all the ZOO's, they got all kind of animals!

So in the after math it would be possible that you have dangerouse animals, rooming free where they did not used to bed.

Re:
George Carlin did a good bit about how when the SHTF and the power goes out, the prisoners will be out and about and ready to make lots of new friends. . .

The US is the biggest prison nation on the planet, of course we have tons of extra money to pay to lock all these "criminals" up (oh that's right, we're almost broke and now have insurmountable debt at all levels), of which an absurd percentage is people busted for small-time drug crimes. Zero tolerance means we're too stupid to discriminate between murderers/rapists and some poor fool caught with too much weed on him.

But yeah, when the the shit truly does hit the fan, the power goes out and the guards aren't getting paid, it will be everybody for themselves, including the prisoners. Expect to see them on a street near you, hungry, pissed and looking for some nice women. . .

Re:
Yikes, I couldn't imagine leaving them to die, but then again what can you do if it gets that bad...

Military?
I know back in the day there were several in boot that had a choice to join or go to jail, but straight from prison to the military?

I can see prisoners escaping during a major earthquake but being left to drown because of a hurricane? Really? Did that happen during Katrina?

I think the government calls it article 23. Where they execute every person in a federal prison, if the SHTF. You know cause they are violent and many would make decent leaders in a military sense.

Never thought of that, but then again I don't live very close to a Zoo. Those caretakers I bet have more feelings for those animals then prison guards have for inmates.

In the short version. The long version is best. Don't remember if "The Kid" was in both, or just the long version. He freaked me out. Larry scored with a bunch more chicks in the long version. The movie didn't touch on any of the sexual slavery.
