Re: Debate on Jobs Bill in U.S. House--Is It About Jobs or Not?
If the final up/down vote on HR 1137 is taken within the hour that will mean the amendment in question will have been posted online for only 3 hours for the public to read and reflect on and contact their House Rep. with their input and thoughts.

This is PANIC Legislating.

This is true. Let's watch and see what happens. If it does pass, won't that be some kind of historic change?

Or have they been passing a lot of things really fast lately? Those of you who have been watching these things can tell us.

I just started myself.
 Quoting: New Eve

The Dems have been PANIC legislating ever since they took over Congress in '07.

Every single Wall Street Bailout- passed by the Dem Majority with few Republican "yay" votes- was passed by Dem PANIC Legislation.

I don't know whether this is a new trend with the Dems or whether it started in '07 with the Financial Meltdown.

I voted Dem since 1972 but never really paid attention to them til '07, when they took Congress by vast majority.

Perhaps someone who has been watching them more closely the past couple decades can say whether or not this is a new trend with them or has been a hallmark of their behavior all along?

Anyway, watching their behavior the past few years has turned me off the Party FOREVER. Honest Repubs (there are a few!) and Independents from here on out for me. There is no support for an honest, well-meaning politician of integrity within the Dem Party. Marcy Kaptur , D. OH, is about it.

Aquarius, is there anything you would recommend other than what Sinanju has?

Bill just passed the House 217 yays to 201 nays.

Nearly every Repub voted against it.

Why do we need another "jobs" bill when they passed the almost Trillion dollar "jobs" bill last year. And most of that money has , supposedly, not been spent.

Enquiring Minds want to know.

>>Just the Fair Tax alone puts the power of government in your wallet.

All Tax does that.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 715509

>>No, all tax does not. The Fair Tax allows people to vote with their wallets. Essential goods like food and medicine are not taxed, luxury goods are. If the PEOPLE do not agree with the way Government spends the revenue then they stop buying luxury goods. You do not have that option with other forms of taxation.

Obama is even spending the original TARP money that has been repaid on his crap programs! And he is still holding the majority of his own stimulus package for the purpose of being able to use it as his personal slush fund and to buy votes in the upcoming elections.

That TARP money was to go toward reducing the deficit and not spent over and over for these useless pork projects.

We will never recover until congress and this administration stops this insame wasting of taxes. Never have I seen anything even close to this about of corruption and waste and I have been watching a long time.

Yes, OP should be very happy that those obstructionist republicans were not able to ward off this additional useless spending of money we don't have.

Maybe it can end up providing jobs for China and Brazil as the last stimulus money has done. $2 billion to develop orrshore drilling in Brazil right after George Soros bought stock in that. Money to China to manufacture solar panels.

We wouldn't want those evil republicans to stop jobs for these foreign countries, now would we? I mean when we are doing so well here at home and all.

I hope this time there was some specifity as to which country these jobs are to be created in for a change but doubt there was.

Democrats never want to discuss anything these days because the minute that happens, public support evaporates--not that they care about that either.

Also, for the record, I do not agree with the suggestion to give all federal positions in government to those who will work for free.

That will mean a bunch of rich people who have no idea what the working people want.

No, the difference is that I am a reasonable person who can learn and who can admit when she has learned something new. I can say "I don't know" and can respect others' opinions.

You are just a dumb-show, like a puppet theater without the sound. You can't stay on one topic long enough to debate with intelligence, but just keep repeating your cant. When that fails to convince, you resort to name-calling. You can't even come up with a creative putdown. You resort to profanity.

Oh, God, partisan politics just never end.

Rep Pete Sessions (R, Dallas) just complained that the Democrats did not come and "explain the bill" to the Republicans in committee.

Can they not read?

 Quoting: New Eve

You know that when discussing bills before the House or Senate, it really helps to provide the Bill Number so other people can go out to thomas.gov to look up the text of the bills in question, provided of course that the GPO has posted the text on line, and its not being rammed through in violation of all sorts of standing rules that are supposed to be adhered to to give the public a reasonable chance to read the text for themselves.

What bill are you referring to?
