A Hypothetical Debate Between Early Christians.....
This is an excerpt from Elaine Pagels book called, "Reading Judas: The Gospel of Judas and the Shaping of Christianity"

Irenaeus:

You heretics reject the God and creator of the world who sent Jesus to die for our sins. And contrary to the clear evidence of Scripture, you deny the goodness of the Creator and his creation.

You may practice strict ethics, but only as evidence that you hate the flesh. By denying that Jesus had a physical body and that believers will rise from the dead even as Jesus did, you undermine salvation and make meaningless the church's eucharist of bread and wine ( as Jesus' body and blood).

You think that you are saved because of your spiritual nature and heavenly origin, so you don't need faith in Christ. Instead you claim to have special knowledge revealed to you alone. This elitist attitude is not only arrogant, it's completely in error and you will be condemned forever.

Gospel of Judas's author:

Irenaeus, you and Christians like you have grossly mistaken the world Creator---whom Scripture itself clearly shows to be jealous, violent, and vengeful---for the True God and father of the Savior Jesus.

It is you who deny the divine goodness, light, and truth, by falsely attributing to God all manner of evil and all the ills of the world: suffering, death, unjust rule, violence, lust for blood of sacrifice, and their like.

By insisting that the physical body is your true nature, you have forgotten that the flesh is manifestly perishable, while God is imperishable. While the body can indeed worship God in righteousness, it is not immortal even though it has been stamped with the divine image of the heavenly Adam and Eve.

You are like those who condemn everyone who disagrees with you to eternal punishment, arrogantly believing that you alone possess the truth. It is you who will perish forever.

Today's modern "Christians" believe that they have cornered the market on truth because they believe what the "winning" side says is the truth.

In reality, there has always been opposition to the claims made by that "universal" church.

Irenaeus was right.

My fav Irenous quote:

"Moreover, another danger, by no means trifling, shall overtake those who falsely presume that they know the name of the Antichrist. For if these men assume one [number] when this [Antichrist] shall come having another, they will be easily led away by him as supposing him not to be the expected
one. . . . It is therefore more certain, and less hazardous, to await the fulfillment of the prophecy than to be making surmises and casting about for any names that may present themselves, inasmuch as many names can be found possessing the number mentioned, and the same question will, after all, remain unsolved" (ibid., 5:30:2-3).

Irenaeus was level headed straight shooter.

Hi SirMT. Not only the gnostic texts, even the bible itself says it in many places. The problem is that people believe what the church has told them it means rather than figure it out for themselves.

And then of course there are added admonitions inserted by the church to NOT go anywhere else or question anything.

I'll take your word for it on the xtian bible FC LOL, haven't read that bunch of myths for years muaha

I perceive religious literalism as a psychosis where normal logical judgment for deciding what is real and unreal are suspended, and are replaced with an obsession for justifying beliefs using dubious interpretations of an ancient religious book rather than seeing myths as symbolic metaphors.

Honey...your problem is that you have confused those who mix paganism and a belief in Yahushua, calling themselves "christians" with those who keep Torah, AND have the testimony of Yahushua. It is the latter who is the TRUE believer, and follower of Yahushua and YHVH.

Irenaus was a "church father" of that organization who killed all the true followers (Natsarim) of Yahushua, and burned all their books and scrolls. He no more speaks for the truth than an atheist, which I might add, is pretty much what Elaine Pagels is, except she worships the g.o.d. of this world, Satan, who IS responsible for all the death and evil seen in the world today. He IS "the g.o.d. of THIS world", but not for much longer!

Hands down. You do not seek knowledge, nor wisdom.

You seek to fabricate your own.

Re: A Hypothetical Debate Between Early Christians.....
Great thread.

This thread shows a typical argument between Constantine's henchmen and the meditative gnostics.

Constantine's henchmen had the express duty of confusing the sacred path and scriptures so no one would ever be able again to see the truth unless they got it fresh from meditation.

It was imperative the the dark forces stopped the march of gnosticism as it had just gotten too big and too popular. If more enlightened people came along, the very basis of satan's kingdom on Earth would have been threatened.

First these collected all the parchments, then they picked the ones they liked, then they ave them a new interpretation was centered around satanic ritual of eating flesh and drinking blood. then they threatened everyone who didn't like their nonsense with eternal damnation.

Why is it that Christians cannot see through this obvious ruse and just go back to worshiping God as light and love and wisdom. It's so simple and rewarding.

They put the Bible ahead of meditation. That is their main problem. And that is putting a work of man above the Holy Spirit.
