It kind of blew me away, when it came out. She moved to Australia after the war. She lived next door to the Anne Frank family.

Wow.

It made me think. She never mentioned it to me.

How freaky is that?

Sure i did. She talked about the German invasion. Having witnessed people from the neighborhood been lined up and shot by the Germans. But never about the Frank family connection. Maybe she did, but i can't remember. I was probably way to young.

Feels bizarre. She told to the whole story to a young girl that lived across the street.

It came out in the funeral today.

It's amazing what we can learn from our elders. My grandpa died when I was young and I although I knew he immigrated from Germany to the US I didn't know the details. He never talked about his past to anyone. We recently found his Ellis Island records and it was like going back in time. It was amazing what people had to do and learn in the early 1900's to become an American citizen (they actually had to learn English....I know....isn't that amazing!!!)

I hear you. My Grandma moved from Amsterdam to Narrogin- Western Austrlia after the war. It was a massive shock.

The Frank family connection and it's history. You know the rest.

Moving on.

This is what my Oma wished to be played at the start of the funeral.

My condolences to you and your family.

Have to admit I got teared up when you said she wanted "what a wonderful world" played.

Thanks mate.

I turned into the water works when i walked into the funeral service and listened to that song.

"What a wealth of knowledge is lost when the memories of our elders is not written down and shared."

If you have grandparents still alive, just ask them for a story from their life.

Your guaranteed to be thrown a curve ball or bouncer.

Although I am only in my early 40s, my grandparents and parents have passed on hence my statement of what a wealth of knowledge is lost.

I have written down stories my aunts and uncles share with us.

Perhaps your grandmother had a friend that she talked to all the time that could share some of the stories with you?

Thanks for the chat. I've got a few diaries to read, when i'm ready. Should be interesting when i take the time to give it the proper attention it deserves.

I have to admire her cheek.

The end of the ceremony was this song.

Billy Joel - My Life

But the Anne Frank connection makes you think a little more then usual.

Over and out.
