The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States, uses the ELLC ecumenical version.[22] The phrase "he descended to the dead" is footnoted to indicate the alternate reading: "or 'he descended into hell,' another translation of this text in widespread use". It does not alter the phrase "the holy catholic church". The ELLC version is also used in the Evangelical Lutheran Worship, which is the primary worship resource for the ELCA[23] and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.[24]

The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, in its current hymnal Lutheran Service Book includes the phrase "he descended into hell." It alters the phrase "the holy catholic church" to read "the Holy Christian Church."[25]

The Danish National Church still uses the phrase "I renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways" as the beginning of this creed, before the line "I believe in God etc.". This is mostly due to the influence of Grundtvig. See (da).

The United Methodists commonly incorporate the Apostles' Creed into their worship services. The version which is most often used is located at #881 in the United Methodist Hymnal, one of their most popular hymnals and one with a heritage to John Wesley, founder of Methodism [3][4]. It is notable for omitting the line "he descended into hell", but is otherwise very similar to the Book of Common Prayer version. The 1989 Hymnal has both the traditional version and the 1988 ecumenical version (see below), which includes "he descended to the dead."

The English Language Liturgical Consultation (ELLC) is an international ecumenical group whose primary purpose is to provide ecumenically accepted texts for those who use English in their liturgy. In 1988 it produced a translation of the Apostles' Creed, distinguished among other things by its avoidance of the word "his" in relation to God. The text is as follows:[5]

The liturgical communities in western Christianity that derive their rituals from the Roman Missal, including those particular communities which use the Roman Missal itself (Roman Catholics), the Book of Common Prayer (Anglicans / Episcopalians), the Lutheran Book of Worship (ELCA Lutherans), Lutheran Service Book (Missouri-Synod Lutherans), use the Apostles' Creed and interrogative forms of it in their rites of Baptism, which they consider to be the first sacrament of initiation into the Church.

An interrogative form of the Apostles' Creed is used in the Rite of Baptism (for both children and adults). The minister of baptism asks the following questions (ICEL, 1974):

Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth?
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, and was buried, rose from the dead, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?
Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?

To each question, the catechumen, or, in the case of an infant, the parents and sponsor(s) (godparent(s)) in his or her place, answers "I do." Then the celebrant says:

Since the 2002 edition, the Apostles' Creed is included in the Roman Missal with the indication, "Instead of the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed, especially during Lent and Easter time, the baptismal Symbol of the Roman Church, known as the Apostles’ Creed, may be used."[27] Previously the Nicene Creed was the only profession of faith that the Missal gave for use at Mass, except in Masses for children; but in some countries use of the Apostles' Creed was already permitted.

The Apostles' Creed is used in the non-Eucharistic services of Matins and Evening Prayer (Evensong). It is invoked after the recitation or singing of the Canticles, and it is the only part of the services in which the congregation is required to turn and face the High Altar, if they are seated transversely in the quire.

The Episcopal Church uses the Apostles' Creed as a Baptismal Covenant for those who are to receive the Rite of Baptism. Regardless of age, candidates are to be sponsored by parents and/or godparents. Youths able to understand the significance of the Rite may go through the ritual speaking for themselves. Younger children and infants rely on their sponsors to act upon their behalf.

1. The celebrant calls for the candidates for Baptism to be presented.

2. The catechumen or sponsors state their request for Baptism.

3a. If the catechumen is of age, the celebrant will ask him or her if he or she desires Baptism, to which the catechumen will respond: "I do."

3b. If the candidate relies on sponsors, the celebrant asks them if they will raise the child in "the Christian faith and life" (ECUSA BCP), and will raise the child through "prayers and witness to grow into the full stature of Christ" to which the parents will state to each, "I will, with God's help."

4. A series of questions is then asked, to which the reply is always "I renounce them":

Do you renounce Satan and all the spiritual forces of wickedness that rebel against God?
Do you renounce the evil powers of this world which corrupt and destroy the creatures of God?
Do you renounce all sinful desires that draw you from the love of God?

5. The second half of the query is asked, to which the reply is always "I do":

Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Savior?
Do you put your whole trust in his grace and love?
Do you promise to follow and obey him as your Lord?

6. The Apostle's Creed is then recited by candidates, sponsors and congregation, each section of the Creed being an answer to the celebrant's question, 'Do you believe in God the Father (God the Son, God the Holy Spirit)?'
[edit] Chinese language Protestant churches
The Apostles' Creed as used by the Filipino-Chinese Anglicans from the Book of Common Prayers published by the Church of the Province of South East Asia.

The vast majority of the Chinese language Protestant churches under China Christian Council or underground in China, or overseas in various denominations, use the Chinese Union Version of the Bible translated in the 1910s, the Lord's Prayer as it is written in the Chinese Union Version and the Apostles' Creed in the weekly services. The Nicene Creed is rarely used, if at all.

In the Philippines, most of the Anglican Chinese use the Apostles' Creed as published by the Church of the Province of Southeast Asia. Most of the times, the Apostles' Creed is used to affirm one's faith, as in baptism, while the Nicene Creed is used during regular services.

During the 1260 years of Papal Rule, Satan used Catholicism to get the known world to bow before him. However, shortly before the Papacy was to receive its deadly wound [Revelation 13:3], the United States was to begin its mission in history. Here in Revelation 13:11-17 is the prophecy that predicted the power of American Protestantism that would gradually become the Prophet that will lead all the world again to accept the dictatorial rule of the Roman Catholic Church.
"And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth greet wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." Revelation 13:11-17.
While the Papacy was losing its power in the third quarter of the 18th century, the United States as an independent Protestant Nation began to make its appearance in history. It was to emerge out of a wilderness symbolized in prophecy as Earth (Rev. 13:13). The United States in the beginning was a haven for those Protestant European people who were fortunate enough to escape the brutal Papal Inquisitions. The United States was set up to have both civil and religious freedom. However, sadly enough, the United States is predicted in Scripture to throw away its civil and religious freedoms and "exerciseth all the power of the first beast (Papacy) before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast (Papacy), whose deadly wound was healed." In other words, the United States will combine religious laws with politics, as did the Papacy when it first ruled Europe. It will force religious laws that actually derived out of Spiritualism, which the Papacy adopted from the Roman version of the religion of Astrology.
The United States is predicted in Scripture to be the False Prophet that will herald the religious dictatorship of the Pope of Rome, and cause the whole world to accept the Mark of the Beast (Papacy). Since we know now who this third power is, found in Revelation 16:13, that shall go forth with the Dragon (Illuminati) and the Beast (Papacy) unto the whole world to gather them together to battle of that great day of God Almighty, let us now examine how indeed conspirators have been working within the United States government behind the scenes, within the high places of our government and other agencies, to lead our country as it is predicted.
To comprehend how degraded our government is becoming, we need to see what the conspiracy of the Beast that ascendeth out of the Bottomless Pit (Illuminati-Communistic-Socialistic) is working within our own country.
As we examined earlier, Adam Weishaupt, founder of the Order of the Illuminati, was a witch, and taught his followers the power of Witchcraft as a weapon to use against those who would get in their way or tried to expose them. The whole order was trained to accomplish their objectives in complete secrecy. Weishaupt himself even remained behind the scenes in his own revolutionary movement. Only his top members knew him. Using Witchcraft to brainwash his new initiates into becoming antiChristian, Weishaupt recruited indirectly an army of international terrorists and propagandists to win others to his movement and help in his struggle to overthrow ALL religions and ALL governments. He even had schools that were specially designed to teach Internationalism. Only a select few were chosen to attend these schools which were established in different parts of the world.
Some of the training received in internationalism was the art of Subliminal Warfare. This takes in mind control, or mind sciences. As stated before, Weishaupt in early Illuminism hired an army of writers to write propaganda literature against Papal Christianity. For some 20 years before the French Revolution, Weishaupt degraded the morals of the French people with Atheism and with the licentious philosophies of Sodomy. And so do we see this same attack on the minds of men here in the 20th Century.
Back in the late 1940's, maybe some of you who are old enough will remember the great Communist plot that was uncovered in Hollywood, where the FBI and the House Committee on Un-American Activities exposed over 300 of Hollywood's top stage and screen stars as card carrying Communists.
Myron C. Fagan was a screen writer, producer and director both in Hollywood and on Broadway. In 1945, at the urgent request of John T. Flynn, the author of The Roosevelt Myth, While We Slept, and The True Story of Pearl Harbor, Fagan attended a meeting in Washington, DC, where he was shown a set of microfilms and recordings of the secret meeting at Yalta attended only by Franklin Roosevelt, Alger Hiss, Harry Hopkins and Stalin, Molotov and Vishinsky, when they hatched the plot to deliver the Balkans, Eastern Europe and Berlin to Stalin. As a result of that meeting, Myron Fagan made open and avowed war on this Illuminati-Communistic-Socialistic Conspiracy, and formed an anti-Communist society called the Cinema Educational Guild. As a result of the work to expose Communistic propaganda in Hollywood, radio and television, in 1947 there was set up in Washington, DC the Congressional hearings that unmasked some of the most famous stars in Hollywood as card carrying Communists.

The answer to that is, they are working for these same international bankers who own the movie companies. Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father, but by me." John 14:6. The more we learn about Jesus, the more we will want to become like him. However, the more our eyes take in the satanic influence of this world, the more a person can be transformed into its image.
In the ancient world Satan degraded the morals of the people and led them to commit the lowest abominations known to mankind by using Nimrod, Semiramis and Cush, who were worshipped as gods through various names and myths. Everything from cannibalism, human sacrifices, incest, sacred prostitution, homosexuality, murder, rape, self-mutilation, torture and suicide, to magic, sorcery, spell-casting, fortunetelling, necromancy, warlockery, and so on, did the gods do in the epics of their lives. Therefore, the ignorant pagans who worshipped these false gods followed in their footsteps. Now, in these modern times, its the movie stars, rock stars and athletes who have become the gods that many worship.
Do not our children or adults receive a steady diet of these same atrocities committed by these stars in the roles they portray? Even the children's cartoons are saturated with crime and violence. Are not the soap operas full of this junk? Awake! Awake! Can't the reader see the subliminal seduction by the hidden instigator of sin? Can't the reader see that there is definitely a reason behind all this crime and violence shown on TV, in movie theaters, and in magazines and newspapers?
Let's take a look again at the realm of music. Do we really need to ask where some of these rock groups get their inspiration? Take for instance Kiss, who paint their faces and leap on the stage puking blood, declaring, "God of Rock and Roll, we'll steal your virgin soul." The producer Bob Ezrin described Kiss as "symbols of unfettered evil and sensuality." Rock magazines call them "fire-breathing demons from Rock and Roll Hell" [1].
One of the members of Kiss, Peter Criss, boldly declares, "I find myself evil. I believe in the Devil as much as God. You can use either one to get things done." Another member of the group has been quoted as saying: "If God is hot stuff, why is he afraid to have other gods before Him? I've always wanted to be God" [2].
Another Rock group we should take a look at, who have been a great influence toward Satanism, is the Rolling Stones. Keith Richards' heroin arrest and his statement express what they stand for: "There are black magicians who think we are acting as unknown agents of Lucifer" [3]. e. Idolatry. Babylon was idolatrous, and Rome adopted many idolatrous practices, such as the worship of the Queen of Heaven and a mystery mass wherein god is sacrificed on man’s altars.

We have seen, then, where the “church” is headed. The prophecies of the New Testament are divided into revelations pertaining to the future of the true churches, and revelations pertaining to the apostate churches. A glorious future awaits the true saints of God, and we who are born again through repentance and faith in the blood of Jesus Christ should be busy serving Christ, while constantly expecting the coming of Christ to take us unto Himself. We will forever be with Him in His eternal kingdom.

The future of the false churches is a different matter altogether. The apostasy that began even during the days of the Apostles will increase until the formation of the great world harlot religion of Rev. 17. This false church will rule with the Antichrist and his government for a short season and then will be judged, and all false, unregenerate “Christians” will suffer the eternal torment of the lost.

If any of our readers are not truly born again, we urge you to repent of your sin and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ for eternal salvation. Do not trust some baptism or church ritual. Do not trust any service you might be doing in the church or in some Christian organization. Do not trust the fact that you might have been born into a “Christian” home. Jesus plainly said, “Except ye be born again, ye shall not see the kingdom of God.” That statement was first addressed to a very religious man, Nicodemas. May we be like the wise people at Thessalonica, who “turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come” (1 Th. 1:9-10).

A statement made in recent years by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the head of the Anglican and Episcopalian churches, shows how far the ecumenical movement has gone toward reconciliation with Rome. “We should like to see the churches of England, Scotland, the United States and any other countries, bound together in one body. If the pope would like to come in as chairman, we should all welcome him” (Why Were Our Reformers Burned?).

In the year 1536, that good and faithful servant of the Lord, William Tyndale, was strangled and burnt at Vilvordi, near Brussels, for translating the New Testament into English, and printing it in 1535. ... About four hundred churches were thus plundered and defaced in a few days. ... The troops were ordered to be distributed over the distracted country, that the persecuting edicts might be enforced. The Protestants were reduced to great straits; many were put to death, and many fled the country ... In the year 1567 the cruel duke of Alva was sent into the Netherlands with an army of fifteen thousand Spaniards and Italians; and the Inquisition was to put forth all its energies. . The wooden churches were pulled down, and, in some places the beams were formed into a great gallows on which to hang the minister and his flock. The persecution of New Testament Christians has been the legacy not only of Rome, but of certain Protestant denominations as well. The Protestant Church of England has imprisoned and martyred hundreds of faithful saints of God during its illustrious history. John Bunyan wrote Pilgrim’s Progress during the 12 years he languished in Bedford prison because of his refusal to accept a license from the state church. Bunyan committed the “awful” crime of preaching the Gospel without the permission of ecclesiastical authorities. Did he not have authority from that One who has all power in heaven and in earth (Mt. 28:18-20; Mk. 16:15)? Indeed, he did, but the old Harlot has usurped Christ’s authority unto itself. It is recorded that there were never less than 60 other “dissenters” with Bunyan in that one jail, and there were many other jails in England in those sad days. These are only tiny examples of the persecution that has raged against New Testament Christians by those who have imbibed the spirit of the Harlot. Unprecedented persecution will be unleashed against those who hold to the Word of God after the final form of the harlot church appears, supported by the satanic power of Antichrist’s government.

The association with Babylon of old identifies her with Rome (Rev. 17:5). “…mystery Babylon the great.” This connects the final apostate harlot church with the false religion established at Babel in the early history of man (Ge. 10:8-10; 11:1-9). In other words, it is the final product of Satan’s corruption of true religion through the ages. Babel of old typifies the end-time Babylon (Rev. 17) in the following ways:
