FACT: Katla eruptions are generally 100x's more powerfull then Eyjafjallajokull eruptions.

Now, look at what Eyjafjallajokull had done so far and multiply that by 100.

And imagine if Hekla also erupted along side of Eyjafjallajokull and Katla.

It will be a legitimate doom smorgeshborg!

Dunno about that...I prefer to trust the Icelandic ones and even the president is saying it is more than likely that Katla will errupt sometime sooner rather than later.

Either way, it's not the end of the world, as already stated this wouldn't even be a relatively large eruption. The worrying thing for me is that too many fairly harmless events are continuosly causing the world to crash and collapse.

Whether it's a few greedy bankers, a slightly colder than normal winter, a few terrorist, flaky laws. The system we have moved the world into is so fragile it's ridiculous. Imagine a car that broke down every time the cigarette lighter conked out...

Posted this in another thread : Will Katla erupt? : [link to www.armageddononline.org]

Also, Five biggest volcano eruptions in modern times : [link to www.armageddononline.org]

Tambora , Krakatoa, Novarupta, Pinatubo and Santa Maria.

"By the measure of the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) - a sort-of Richter scale for eruptions - the current outburst is probably a 2 or a 3, experts say. In other words, eruptions like Eyjafjallajökull happen virtually every year somewhere in the world. It's a regular occurance.

The biggest eruption of the past millennium , by contrast, was a 7. Given that each number on the scale represents an eruption 10 times more powerful than the previous, that means Eyjafjallajökull is 10,000 times less powerful than one in Indonesia's Sunda Islands in 1815. "

Crazy stuff.

Personally, I have no problem with no flying.
Au contraire, I thoroughly enjoy the clear blue sky!

I totally agree with that. I've heard the skies have been beautiful without those pesky airplanes! hf

I have no idea where you got that info, but that is incorrect! It would be about 20-30 times at the max depending on the type of eruption Katla has. Chances are fairtly good that we could see a VEI 6 event next time she does erupt and that would compare to Pinatubo in 1991 except for the catastrophic flooding since she is a subglacial volcano. Very doomy for Iceland no doubt!

I do agree it would be alot doomier if all 3 were to erupt at the same time(not very likely), however it still in no way compares to a Yellowstone event!
