Eventually I reached the district manager and got the cold shoulder, so i asked to speak to the person that signed her paycheck,,,,,,she called me back in two days and said a check was in the mail. Stay after them and keep calling, I'm proof you can bitch and irritate them enough to get your money. Good Luck Thanks, I haven't decided what to do yet. Glad to know though what someone else did. Did they question where you received it? With cash it's hard to prove. It will be monday before we can even go back to the bank. |

Bad day for me. I'm torn between reporting it to them and not wanting to get in trouble myself. Like the above poster noted, the guy at the store said it could be used as trouble against us. What a system. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 886477If you reported it, what would you get in trouble for??? Do you think counterfeiters run around reporting counterfeit money? And forget what the idiot in the store said. What he meant (if he knew what he was talking about) was if you go and pass it off somewhere else, you could get in trouble. You certainly aren't getting in trouble for reporting it. 'When Plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men, they create for themselves, in the course of time, a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.' Frederic Bastiat, 'The Law' 1850 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes." JohnSwinton, 1830-1901, Former chief-of-staff New York Times ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "The bold effort the present bank has made to control the Government, the distress it has wantonly produced ... are but premonitions of the fate that awaits the American People should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution (The Bank of the United States), or the establishment of another like it." Andrew Jackson (December 2, 1834) |

Honest to a fault, she just took the loss. Be very leery when receiving money in denominations over $50; only use a teller, and look at the money in front of them to determine where the strip is that reads the denomination. Apparently, the strip can't be counterfeited (sp?), but the watermark of the corresponding president can. Sorry for your dilemma. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 950915This bill has the strip in it which I thought was odd also. |

It could be a person working at that specific branch passing out the fake bills. |

I assumed, wrongly, that any cash you received at a bank had to have been verified. I guess a bank is above checking each bill though, that's for the lowly attendant at a store to do. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 948976 United States 04/23/2010 09:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There was a guy at office depot in front of me the other day, they were telling him that his $100 bill was counterfeit, he also said he just got it from the bank, he seemed pretty upset and sincere. I asked the girl at the counter if that type of thing was common, she said it has been happening quite a bit lately. I'm wondering if there is something the banks are doing where they don't have the machine that reads if the bill is fake or not. Then when they do find one that's fake, they put it in to be doled out to the customers. I'm just wondering what would happen if you tried to deposit it at the ATM. Would the people who sort through the money have the little machine with them that can tell if the cash is counterfeit? I would think not. But once that 50 bucks is in the bank, even if they call you and say, hey, you put a 50 dollar bill in here that is counterfeit, we're going to confiscate it, you would just say no I didn't, you better not take my money, etc, etc. What's the worse thing that could happen? You can't spend it anyway. Once they've accepted it into their system, I'd be surprised if they would try to take it from you. Then go back in to withdrawl it, and whenever they give you cash, I would have them record the serial numbers on the bill or something, just in case they give you another fake one. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 912880 United States 04/23/2010 09:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My husband just went and cashed his check at Wells Fargo. He only had $3.00 in $1.00 bills in his pocket until cashing his check. Then he went to the store and tried to pay with one of the fifty dollar bills he had just gotten at Wells Fargo. Well, they told him it was no good. They showed him it had 3 marks on the bill already which he didn't notice before. He could have only gotten these bills at Wells Fargo. So then he went to another store and while he was on the phone with me one of the helpers at this store overheard our conversation. He said we could do whatever we wanted but that the bank will take the fifty and not give us anything in return because we can't prove that's where we got it. Then he looked at the bill and it has the red & blue ink and the threads it is supposed to have. Also has the strip in it. I didn't think the bank could make a mistake like this. Don't they have to check the cash they are passing out? Are we just out the cash. I have no idea how many of the bills are even good that he has? What would you do. It's about 2k. I guess we should shred the fifty so we don't get in trouble trying to get rid of it? And take one of those pens in and mark all the bills before accepting them in front of the cashier? If the bank can't tell, how the hell are we supposed to know when they give them to us? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 886477Have the bills checked for fingerprints of the Wells Fargo Teller - AND DON"T TOUCH ANYMORE OF THEM! |

alpinealisa User ID: 287017 United States 04/23/2010 09:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got one from Chase last year but mine was $100.00 I went into the bank and told them (sans the actual $ as I knew they would take it) and was basically told, tough shit, you cant prove you got it here. I KNOW I got it in my cash withdrawl at the window not the atm. I was told all $ was supposed to be put under the ultraviolet light that comes out of the vault but woops, guess someone must have missed this one. It is still hanging on my fridge. I tried to use it numerous times, walmart, sears, gas station, just to be sure it was bad, and they all told me it was. Just imagine, you give them "real money" they give you fake useless money with no recourse. Is this just another example of the banks corrupt system? Think of the implications of banks doing this everday, all over the country. I mentioned this to my Dad and he mentioned it to the teller at his credit union and she said "it happens frequently! Do not ever walk out of the bank without having your withdraw ran under the light. Once you walk out, there is NOTHING you can do about it. Actually, whenever i take out money now, I refuse to take anything bigger than a $20.00 |
