WELLS FARGO just passed us a counterfeit $50.00 bill

OP this happened to me at an airport, $100
I called my bank and gave them the case number,
they told me tuff shit, so I asked to speak
to the next person in the chain of command to
argue my case. Eventually I reached the district manager
and got the cold shoulder, so i asked to speak to
the person that signed her paycheck,,,,,,she called me back
in two days and said a check was in the mail.

Stay after them and keep calling, I'm proof you can
bitch and irritate them enough to get your money.

Has a bank passed one to anyone else before? I really thought that it was safe coming from a bank. Bad day for me. I'm torn between reporting it to them and not wanting to get in trouble myself. Like the above poster noted, the guy at the store said it could be used as trouble against us. What a system.

How would he prove that it is the same cash they gave him. I wasn't planning on donating fifty to the bankers again today.

take the entire incident to the state dept of banking if the bank mgr isnt cooperative. call the media too.....givem some (more) bad press. youtube it. viral it.....

Be very leery when receiving money in denominations over $50; only use a teller, and look at the money in front of them to determine where the strip is that reads the denomination. Apparently, the strip can't be counterfeited (sp?), but the watermark of the corresponding president can. Sorry for your dilemma.

This bill has the strip in it which I thought was odd also.

If a person passes a fake bill they get in trouble. You received a fake bill, report it to the feds. It could be a person working at that specific branch passing out the fake bills.

It is logical, I guess we'll go in on Monday and see what happens. I have to wonder why a bank is capable of this though. I assumed, wrongly, that any cash you received at a bank had to have been verified. I guess a bank is above checking each bill though, that's for the lowly attendant at a store to do.

My husband just went and cashed his check at Wells Fargo. He only had $3.00 in $1.00 bills in his pocket until cashing his check. Then he went to the store and tried to pay with one of the fifty dollar bills he had just gotten at Wells Fargo. Well, they told him it was no good. They showed him it had 3 marks on the bill already which he didn't notice before. He could have only gotten these bills at Wells Fargo. So then he went to another store and while he was on the phone with me one of the helpers at this store overheard our conversation. He said we could do whatever we wanted but that the bank will take the fifty and not give us anything in return because we can't prove that's where we got it. Then he looked at the bill and it has the red & blue ink and the threads it is supposed to have. Also has the strip in it. I didn't think the bank could make a mistake like this. Don't they have to check the cash they are passing out? Are we just out the cash. I have no idea how many of the bills are even good that he has? What would you do. It's about 2k. I guess we should shred the fifty so we don't get in trouble trying to get rid of it? And take one of those pens in and mark all the bills before accepting them in front of the cashier? If the bank can't tell, how the hell are we supposed to know when they give them to us?

She did not say that all 50 dollar bills she received were fake. We have one bill in question. She was pretty clear in explaining this in her original post. I too, would distrust the rest if they can pass one.

Go to the bank tomorrow while they are busy and throw a fit in front of everyone. Make sure to use the word counterfei as often as possible. You'll get the money back.
