Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 886477 United States 04/23/2010 09:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Go to the bank tomorrow while they are busy and throw a fit in front of everyone. Make sure to use the word counterfei as often as possible. You'll get the money back. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 910589Hahaha, that's funny and probably true too. I have to wonder how everyone would feel if they knew how easily it could happen to them at their local bank. Just to think that it could happen to someone's entire paycheck and it really could be devastating to them on a personal level if they are living paycheck to paycheck. This bill looks completely authentic. There really isn't anyway to know anything is wrong on this one until it's marked. Never had a problem before. In the future I'll have my own pen and will probably request small bills before ever leaving the teller's window. |
alpinealisa User ID: 801173 United States 04/23/2010 10:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When this happened to me, the withdrawl was quite large, the teller and I went into a private room where she counted out the $. She went TO THE VAULT to get it. This was right before WAMU went down and I got nervous and took out my lifes savings. A few months later when things had settled down and I got tired of being nervous with cash in the house, I re deposited almost all of it. The rest I kept at home for emergency money. This bad $100.00 was still in the bank band when I took cash to buy a new washer. The guy at Sears was the one that questioned it. The bank would not do anything about it and I DID make a scene! |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 886477 United States 04/23/2010 10:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | THe bank teller actually told me that the conterfitters (yes I know sp? ) take a $10.00 bill, wash it with a certain chemical, leaving the security markings intact, then reink the paper to look like a hundred dollar bill. Quoting: alpinealisa 864309My daughter told me that also. This one's strip says Fifty USA 50 in it. Sure seems like an unbelievable fake to not go to the trouble of making it unmarkable. You would think with that kind of talent they could do better. I've watched shows where they say that foreign governments are the biggest counterfeiters there are. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 931933 United States 04/23/2010 10:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Makes me want to buy a counterfeit pen (I think they sell them at walgreens) and when the cashier at the bank hands me out my money, take the pen in front of the cashier and verify that all bills are real. I swear I've handed bills into the bank before, hundred dollar bills (not often) and wondered why they didn't check the bills more thoroughly. Where i work, we at least hold it up to the light if we don't have a pen. The banks supposedly can use UV lights, but if my bill had been fake, I doubt they'd even realize who gave it to them if they found out |

One day, my husband made a deposit and as soon as he got back to our place, the bank was on the phone and the teller told him there was a fake $100 in the deposit so she was going to reduce our account by that amount. He told her no fucking way, we had no way of knowing if that specific bill was in our deposit, it could have come from anywhere. Also told her if our account was charged, it would be closed immediately and our business taken elsewhere. Never heard another word about it. I have wondered if the teller herself was trying to make a hundred bucks there. |

The finger prints of people that have handled it(including the Counterfeiter, and Bank Teller) are recoverable by the FBI. The FBI is responsible for investigating all counterfeit so call them and turn it over to them. Report this to your bank and ask for a replacement. |

They just passed that problem on to individuals, middle and lower class people just like they pass EVERY friggin bad problem they have on to the common working people. THESE ASSHOLES need to be stopped! I say we make a common citizen authenticity stamp. Anyone who wants to buy one can. Sorta of a citizen's insurance if you will. If you use Wells Fargo, you order a Wells Fargo stamp. You give the teller the stamp when you go to withdraw money. The stamp says this money is certified legitimate by Wells Fargo Bank. It would have a signature line for the teller to sign. If the bill is bad and someone tries to use it, the bank has to take responsibility for it. If they try to say that the stamp itself is counterfeit, you point to the teller's signature. And date. They won't do it you say? Well if we hadn't bailed out the too big to fail banks in the first place we wouldn't be at the mercy of these fuckers now would we. The big banks would have gone bankrupt and the smaller banks would have gobbled up every atm, chair, and tacky painting up off of every wall. There would be hundreds of them. All competing for our business. A citizen's stamp? Sure, bring it on. We'll do anything to certify the authenticity of our money. Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 886477 United States 04/23/2010 10:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I find all of this very interesting. If you think about it, the only time you get $100 bills is from the bank really. I mean, if you were to go to sears, and pay for a washing machine, you'd either do it by check or credit card. Very few people would have 2 $500 bills and need $100 bill in change. Just an example. So let's say, the banks somehow get clobbered, all of a sudden with fake $100.00 bills from whatever source. How are they going to get rid of them? Of course, give them out to the unsuspecting public! Then tell them they're f^&*ed when they try to say anything. All this going on, and of course, what just came out in the last week. The new and improved $100 dollar bill! Anonymous Coward User ID: 1006923 United States 06/18/2010 12:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My husband just went and cashed his check at Wells Fargo. He only had $3.00 in $1.00 bills in his pocket until cashing his check. Then he went to the store and tried to pay with one of the fifty dollar bills he had just gotten at Wells Fargo. Well, they told him it was no good. They showed him it had 3 marks on the bill already which he didn't notice before. He could have only gotten these bills at Wells Fargo. So then he went to another store and while he was on the phone with me one of the helpers at this store overheard our conversation. He said we could do whatever we wanted but that the bank will take the fifty and not give us anything in return because we can't prove that's where we got it. Then he looked at the bill and it has the red & blue ink and the threads it is supposed to have. Also has the strip in it. I didn't think the bank could make a mistake like this. Don't they have to check the cash they are passing out? Are we just out the cash. I have no idea how many of the bills are even good that he has? What would you do. It's about 2k. I guess we should shred the fifty so we don't get in trouble trying to get rid of it? And take one of those pens in and mark all the bills before accepting them in front of the cashier? If the bank can't tell, how the hell are we supposed to know when they give them to us?
