Told him it was fake too. Anyway to recover it from the bank passing it out? Does anyone else have experience of this? I heard the way to crash an economy is to fill it with counterfeit money. Must be some pretty good counterfeit huh? |

I won't waste time with my horror stories, but I would stop going to that bank, and, I'd probably carry one of those pens with me to check every bill from now on. So what if they are offended; as you can see, you're out the cash if they make the mistake! |

They also claimed to have gotten the bills from the bank. Once the bills are in your possession, you are on the hook for anything that might happen. Goodluck. |

User ID: 941153 United States 04/23/2010 08:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My husband just went and cashed his check at Wells Fargo. He only had $3.00 in $1.00 bills in his pocket until cashing his check. Then he went to the store and tried to pay with one of the fifty dollar bills he had just gotten at Wells Fargo. Well, they told him it was no good. They showed him it had 3 marks on the bill already which he didn't notice before. He could have only gotten these bills at Wells Fargo. So then he went to another store and while he was on the phone with me one of the helpers at this store overheard our conversation. He said we could do whatever we wanted but that the bank will take the fifty and not give us anything in return because we can't prove that's where we got it. Then he looked at the bill and it has the red & blue ink and the threads it is supposed to have. Also has the strip in it. I didn't think the bank could make a mistake like this. Don't they have to check the cash they are passing out? Are we just out the cash. I have no idea how many of the bills are even good that he has? What would you do. It's about 2k. I guess we should shred the fifty so we don't get in trouble trying to get rid of it? And take one of those pens in and mark all the bills before accepting them in front of the cashier? If the bank can't tell, how the hell are we supposed to know when they give them to us? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 886477You are assuming WF can't tell true from counterfeit currency... I wouldn't make that assumption. As to what to do at this point? Fake money works like this: He who has it last gets shafted. Now another person could have walked into the bank 5 minutes prior to your husband's arrival and given the teller 2 fake 50's and said: "I need change - 100 One dollar bills please." And if the teller couldn't see they were fake, she'd put them in her drawer and then they were handed out to the next sucker who walked in (sorry, but your husband). The only way not to get stung is to recognize while still in the bank the first time that it is fake and point it out to them. Then they are on the hook for it (though I'm sure , being a bank, there is some program in place for them to get refunded 100% of their losses plus something else fortheir troubles). So all you can do is: Eat it Or Attempt to pass it on to some other unsuspecting person and stick 'em with it. But now you know the truth so you could be arrested for counterfeiting if someone were to say you passed a bad bill knowing it was bad. 'When Plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men, they create for themselves, in the course of time, a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.' Frederic Bastiat, 'The Law' 1850 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes." JohnSwinton, 1830-1901, Former chief-of-staff New York Times ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "The bold effort the present bank has made to control the Government, the distress it has wantonly produced ... are but premonitions of the fate that awaits the American People should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution (The Bank of the United States), or the establishment of another like it." Andrew Jackson (December 2, 1834) |

I really thought that it was safe coming from a bank. Bad day for me. I'm torn between reporting it to them and not wanting to get in trouble myself. Like the above poster noted, the guy at the store said it could be used as trouble against us. What a system. |

Eventually I reached the district manager and got the cold shoulder, so i asked to speak to the person that signed her paycheck,,,,,,she called me back in two days and said a check was in the mail. Stay after them and keep calling, I'm proof you can bitch and irritate them enough to get your money. Good Luck |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 950915 United States 04/23/2010 08:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Same thing happened to my sister with a $100 bill. Honest to a fault, she just took the loss. Be very leery when receiving money in denominations over $50; only use a teller, and look at the money in front of them to determine where the strip is that reads the denomination. Apparently, the strip can't be counterfeited (sp?), but the watermark of the corresponding president can. Sorry for your dilemma. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 951405 United States 04/23/2010 08:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm sorry to say but I've heard this story many times, you're out of the $50. The best thing to do is what you said, get one of those pens to check it yourself and do it every time you get cash from a bank. Banks like to pass the bills they get in deposits that day to avoid the collateral, LOL well thats my speculation :) |
