I'm sorry to say but I've heard this story many times, you're out of the $50. The best thing to do is what you said, get one of those pens to check it yourself and do it every time you get cash from a bank. Banks like to pass the bills they get in deposits that day to avoid the collateral, LOL well thats my speculation :)
