It was. I had to watch it a couple times and noticed a few things I didn't catch the first time.

Re: Donny Darko
i love this movie, as well as richard kelly's other 2 films 'southland tales' and 'the box'...

anyway- donnie darko is cool because i like time travel paradoxia.

when someone, or someTHiNG changes its course and travels through time, in this case a jet engine falling into a wormhole, the time traveler creates a branch off universe where a bunch of "what ifs" take place...

the jet engine travels through time into the past and into donnie's house-

now, we have a human variable here- donnie, and if he stays in bed or not.

donnie's death creates the two split stories we witness.

in the movie, he is saved by being called away by frank the rabbit, and at the end we get to see what happens if he stayed in bed.

anyway- just my thoughts.

i am sindaddy.

Re: Donny Darko
Its similar to the Butterfly Effect...with Ashton Kutcher? The what-if/paranormal storyline is a very powerful allure and Donny Darko was possibly one of the first movie (not series) to have this. Being a hero (ie choosing to die to save others) even though they wont know this....he will!

Re: Donny Darko
Stupid movie for stupid people.

I would rather watch the fish tank at the local pet store than garbage like that movie.

Waste of time and money.

Goodbye, halcyon days...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

Re: Donny Darko
Donnie Darko had such a following because of the rabbits. It stalked him, it was not just a hallucination, but the collective culmination of thousands of years of cellular memory being activated by chemical reactions related to teenage hormonal changes. This so-called evil rabbit hid the true meaning of life, symbolized by the silver face, the face of eternal knowledge of the future in the hippo campus of Donnie's brain.

This egg, this evolutionary gift of the ancestral genetic code was his gift and curse. The power of the time gifting was too much for his teen emotions and actually resulted in insanity.

So the next time Tim the enchanter is asked, "Is it behind the rabbit?" Know what he means when he says, " IT IS THE RABBIT!"
