NASA's Voyager assimilated by aliens

The deep space Voyager 2 appears to have been hijacked by aliens and is starting to send back messages in an unknown data format.

According to the Aussie Daily Telegraph, Nasa's finest minds have been unable to work out which file format the satellite has started to use.

Engineers have since instructed Voyager 2 to only transmit data on its own health and status while they work on the problem.

Voyager 2 was launched in 1977, and after having a look at Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune they kept going. Nearly 33 years later, they are the most distant human-made objects.

However it is not clear what happened to Voyager 2 as it is unusual for computers to suddenly upgrade their operating systems when they are a long way away from the nearest help desk.

It is possible that the transmissions have been scrambled by one of the interstellar shock waves that buffet the satellite far into deep space.

Of course it could be aliens who have hijacked the ship so that it plays back all those stupid sitcoms that we have been broadcasting into space for the last century. After all they would be just as annoyed at Gilligan's Island as the rest of us.
