Coast Guard officials say they are turning up the heat on BP to do a better job keeping oil off the Louisiana coast

Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mary Landry had more harsh words for the oil company today, a day after publicly calling BP out for leaving protective boom sitting on the dock while oil was coming ashore.

"We're doubling up our set of eyes and we're doubling up our tactical oversight of this and we're also bringing some Coast Guard strike team personnel," said Landry.

She says if the company can't do what has to be done, she'll deploy Coast Guard, military or private resources, as needed.
"BP will pay for all these resources, whether they're federal contracted or otherwise," said Landry.

Meanwhile, the state of Louisiana has begun a dredging project to keep oil out of the wetlands near Grand Isle.

Governor Bobby Jindal says they couldn't wait any longer.

"The oil is coming. No question about it. You can look at the NOAA projections, you can see the oil from the air," said Jindal.

The governor says they are starting to work to build a sand barrier to the approaching oil under an existing permit on a coastal restoration project in the area.

Jindal is still waiting for the feds to approve a larger plan to block the crude with dredged sand barriers.

The governor hopes to use this as a demonstration of the strategy's effectiveness.

The possibility of an extinction event?
It's hard to say exactly what's going on in the Gulf right now, especially because there are so many conflicting reports and unanswered questions. But one thing's for sure: if the situation is actually much worse than we're being led to believe, there could be worldwide catastrophic consequences.

If it's true that millions upon millions of gallons of crude oil are flooding the Gulf with no end in sight, the massive oil slicks being created could make their way into the Gulf Stream currents, which would carry them not only up the East Coast but around the world where they could absolutely destroy the global fishing industries.

Already these slicks are making their way into Gulf wetlands and beaches where they are destroying birds, fish, and even oyster beds. This is disastrous for both the seafood industry and the people whose livelihoods depend on it. It's also devastating to the local wildlife which could begin to die off from petroleum toxicity. Various ecosystems around the world could be heavily impacted by this spill in ways that we don't even yet realize.

There's no telling where this continuous stream of oil will end up and what damage it might cause. Theoretically, we could be looking at modern man's final act of destruction on planet Earth, because this one oil rig blowout could set in motion a global extinction wave that begins with the oceans and then whiplashes back onto human beings themselves.

We cannot live without life in the oceans. Man is arrogant to drill so deeply into the belly of Mother Earth, and through this arrogance, we may have just set in motion events that will ultimately destroy us. In the future, we may in fact talk about life on Earth as "pre-spill" versus "post-spill." Because a post-spill world may be drowned in oil, devoid of much ocean life, and suffering a global extinction event that will crash the human population by 90 percent or more.

We may have just done to ourselves, in other words, what a giant meteorite did to the dinosaurs.

unfortunately BP is in charge for a few different reasons.

1. They only have to pay 75million for clean up. The rest is voluntary. I am sure they have made that very clear to the government.

2. If the government agencies take over and something goes wrong, if you think BP can spin this for good, see what they do then. The warning was put out about the other dispersant, imagine how the sheeple will react when BP starts a smear campaign against the EPA.

3. The have put up a line and told the US government that if they cross it, they own it.

Unfortunately, with sheeple (see all the Obama bashing), if the government takes over, immediately half the country will be attacking them for how they are doing it wrong, and a small push will bring enough over to kill the existing government in future elections.

BP acts on this spill for monetary reasons.

The government acts on this for political reasons. (the republitards would do the same)



Excellent analysis. In my view, both BP and GOVT are screwed either way, because although both may conceal the true facts about the extent of the spill, they won't be able to contain the unprecedented damage as it manifests in the Gulf and beyond for decades to come. The GOVT and BP will now be forced to rely on MSM for ongoing cover-up. Let's hope someone in the press has a "Watergate" moment.

President Obama is a pussy for letting BP run the show here. This needs to be taken away from them and get some smart guys in the room.

It is way past time to get BP out of this and no longer in charge. They are over their head. Bring in the smartest people from everywhere. I true President or a leader that didn't just read a teleprompter would have already done this 3 weeks ago. It's time to take it our of their evil fucing hands.
