TEMPLE OF SATURN, the ARA SATURN, and the ARA CONSTELLATION- Self-PIN!
[link to sights.seindal.dk]

An altar dedicated to Saturn, the Ara Saturni, stood in front of the temple, on the other side of the road that passes just in front of the temple. The remains of this altar are now under a roof just in front of the Umbilicus Urbis Romae, near the Arch of Septimius Severus. See this map for an illustration of the probable location of the altar.

Inside the temple stood a statue of of Saturn, which would be carried in procession when triumphs were celebrated. The feast of the Saturnalia on December 17th was a part of the cult of Saturn and was started with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn.

Feeling the hatred of all damned in hell
Flesh starts to burn, twist and deform
Eyes dripping blood realization of death
Transforming of five toes to two
Learn the sacred words of praise, hail satan"

Re: TEMPLE OF SATURN, the ARA SATURN, and the ARA CONSTELLATION- Self-PIN!
The Temple of Saturn (Templum Saturni or Aedes Saturnus) is the oldest temple in the Forum Romanum, consecrated for the first time in c. 498 BCE. It is located in the W. end of the Forum, behind the Rostra and the Basilica Julia, across the Clivus Capitolinus from the Temple of Vespasian and Titus.

There have been three temples dedicated to Saturn on the location. The first was built in the last years of the Roman Kingdom, but was first consecrated in the first decade of the Roman Republic. Very little is known about this archaic temple, but it was probably Etruscan in style, just as the contemporary Temple of Jupiter Capitolinus on the Capitolium.

The first temple was torn down in 42 BCE and a new temple built in stone, by the aedile L. Munatius Plancus. The tall, massive, travertine clad podium, measuring 40×22.5m with a height of 9m, is from this building. This temple was in turn destroyed by the fire of 283 CE, which destroyed major parts of the Forum Romanum.

The temple was reconstructed under Diocletian after the fire, but the ground plan and podium from 42 BCE was retained. The temple was of the Ionic order with six columns on the facade. The eight surviving columns of red and grey granite are from this third temple, which largely used recycled material—not all columns, bases and capitals match stylistically.

The inscription on the architrave is also from this period. It reads: "Senatus populusque romanus incendio consumptum restituit"; meaning "The Roman senate and people restored what fire had consumed".

In front of the podium, under the now collapsed stairway, were two rooms, one of which served as the Aerarium, the State Treasury. On the side of the podium holes remain from where a plate was attached for the posting of public documents and acts pertinent to the Aerarium.

Built by/for Tarquinius Superbus
[link to en.wikipedia.org]
According to one story, when Superbus was approached by the Cumaean Sibyl, she offered him nine books of prophecy at an exorbitant price. Superbus refused abruptly, and the Sibyl proceeded to burn three of the nine. She then offered him the remaining books, but at the same price. Superbus hesitated, but refused again. The Sibyl then burned three more books and again offered Tarquin the three remaining Sibylline Books at the original price. At last Superbus accepted. As the Sibylline Books were housed in the fortress temple of Jupiter, their legend has been associated with him.

Mythology of Ara:

In ancient Greek mythology, Ara was identified as the altar of Lycaon. Lycaon sacrificed a child (according to one legend, it was Arcas) to Zeus on the altar on mount Lycaeus, and immediately after the sacrifice was turned into a wolf, which may have also formed the basis for the myth of the constellation Lupus. In other Greek tales, Ara was identified with the altar of the god of wine, Dionysus, or with that of the centaur Chiron; its original Latin name was Ara Centauri.

The Ara Pacis Augustae (Latin, "Altar of Augustan Peace"; commonly shortened to Ara Pacis) is an altar to Peace, envisioned as a Roman goddess.
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

[link to www.artic.edu]

The Ara Pacis, a monument to Augustus Caesar and an altar for religious celebration of peace, perfectly exemplified Augustus.. program of cultural revival and captured the spirit of his reign through its Golden Age motif. Images of the anthropomorphic deities Earth and Roma, emulating bounty and peace, decorate panels on the east facade of the Ara Pacis.. enclosure wall. The panel depicting the goddess Roma barely remains, but she was likely at leisure with weapons piled beneath, her helm slid back, perhaps leaning upon her shield and resting in this newfound peace (Kähler 70). The neighboring panel depicting Mother Earth (Italia, Tellus, Ceres), however, remains in whole (fig. 2). In this scene of tranquillity, a bold attempt is made to connect the Saturnian Golden Age with that of Augustus. The images of this panel represent the bounteous, abundant yield and lush fertility of the new Augustan "golden" age. Animals and crops clutter the panel; the anthropomorphic winds flank Mother Earth, who holds two babies upon her lap while a river flows beneath their feet (Zanker 172, 174).

Can't leave out my pal, of course!
THE PASSWORD IS SWORDFISH

Dorado is a constellation in the southern sky, created in the late sixteenth century and now one of the 88 modern constellations. Its name refers to the dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus), which is known as dorado in Spanish, although it has also been depicted as a swordfish in the past. Dorado is notable for containing most of the Large Magellanic Cloud, the remainder being in the constellation Mensa. The South Ecliptic Pole also lies within this constellation.

Even though the name Dorado is not Latin but Spanish, astronomers give it the Latin genitive form Doradus when naming its stars; they are treating it (like the adjacent constellation Argo Navis) as if it were a feminine proper name of Greek origin ending in o (like Io or Callisto or Argo), names that have a genitive ending in -us.

Cosmic Bullet Fired by Exploding Star
[link to www.space.com]

A bullet-shaped object can be seen rocketing out of the huge explosion from a dying star in a new image taken by a powerful X-ray space telescope.

The new image from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory shows N49, the aftermath of a supernova explosion in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a dwarf galaxy that neighbors our own Milky Way.

The cosmic bullet in the scene was caught when astronomers used Chandra for over 30 hours to get a long exposure. [Gallery - The X-ray Universe.]

The bullet, which suggests a highly asymmetric explosion, is traveling at a high speed of about 5 million mph (8 million kph) away from a bright point source in the upper left part of N49. This bright source may be a so-called soft gamma-ray repeater (SGR), a source that emits bursts of gamma-rays and X-rays.

A leading explanation for these objects is that they are neutron stars with extremely powerful magnetic fields. Since neutron stars are often created in supernova explosions, an association between SGRs and supernova remnants is not unexpected.

This case is strengthened by the apparent alignment between the bullet's path and the bright X-ray source.

However, the new Chandra observations also show that the bright source is more obscured by gas than expected if it really lies inside the supernova remnant. In other words, it is possible that the bright X-ray source actually lies beyond the remnant and is projected along the line of sight.

Another possible bullet is located on the opposite side of the remnant, but it is harder to see in the image because it overlaps with the bright emission from the shock-cloud interaction — the yellow and purple parts of the image (from Hubble Space Telescope data). These regions are bright filaments where the shock wave generated by the supernova is interacting with the densest regions in nearby clouds of cool, molecular gas.

The new Chandra photo suggests that the age of N49 — as it appears in the image — is about 5,000 years old, and the energy of the explosion is estimated to be about twice that of an average supernova.

These preliminary results suggest that the original explosion was caused by the collapse of a massive star.

The research and new Chandra image were presented at the 216th meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Miami, Fla.

Take a look at this beauty:

YOU
Large flat gongs may be 'primed' by lightly hitting them before the main stroke, greatly enhancing the sound and causing the instrument to "speak" sooner, with a shorter delay for the sound to "bloom".

I often find myself at a loss for words. Perhaps you can help. I have hyperdimensional hypertext overloads.

I was aware of that as there were about 3 or 4 posts about it. Regardless of who it was, they live on through their music, and the beat goes on, and I don't find it funny.

I should have picked a better word. Not funny. It is never funny when someone dies. Yes, he will live on in his music. Sorry for the word usage.
I didn't know you were aware of his passing. I guess I looked at your thread first before I saw the others.
