Got an idea- Let's make it law that if you're not working and paying taxes, you can't vote!

Accually I don't believe we have a "next year" But I put this out there cause I'm slightly drunk and sometiimes think "what if" thank you for (I was going to say playing but mean no dis really)

Well at this point I would rather take the vote from all lobbyists and coorporate shills that have let this country go to pieces. It is not the working poor or the people that have no power that have screwed we the people. I think that your anger is very misplaced! I'm accually a fan of all the things big oil has been reppresing..... electric cars and everything that big oil has stopped. If TPTB had not had power, we would all have a little box in our house providing all the power we need and then some. I don't believe we can stop the things about to come our way.

The boss was cheating on his wife, gets caught and the divorce gets nasty, business gets closed down.. so the employees on the street can't vote because of their boss can't keep his wanker in his pants? I've seen it.

An oil company screws up and creates a huge leak, the fisherman can't fish because the WHOLE area is contaminated, so now he isn't working..

A vet comes back from the war, needs some time to get his head together, so he isn't working while he meanders the country and heals, he can't vote??

How about: if your income is in any way derived from a government entity, whether welfare, unemployment, or a gubbermint job, you forfeit the vote?

I stopped voting a few years ago- would like it to matter- anyone got a better idea? It needs to start at the root, and my idea would definitely shake it up from the root.

how is it my fault that the bottom fell out of the construction industry and that ALL the building jobs around here have gone buh-bye? I've been in school the last two years to increase my hire-ability and you want to penalize me for that by taking away my right to vote? I think I'd let my voting machine (aka my shotgun) tell you to fuck off before I let that happen.

It doesn't matter if you work, don't work, get laid, are s.m.r.t or stupid, who gets into office will get into office with no actual assistance from you. But pretend to vote if it makes you feel like you did something important.

Also, ballots should be printed in ENGLISH only. If you don't speak and read English, you have no business voting in the USA.

Also, some type of literacy test should be required in order to get registered to vote. Not necessarily an IQ test, but some proof of being knowledgeable of the candidates and issues to be voted upon.

There is definitely something wrong with the current system, but I don't think a litmus test based how much people do or don't pay in taxes is the answer. That cuts too many upstanding citizens in unique circumstances out of the process.

Several examples have already been given on this thread. I would like to throw out one more and that's people starting up their own small business.

It can take years for a new business owner to start turning a profit, and it's entrepreneurs such as this who end up creating jobs for others. We do not want to exclude industrial self-starters from the system. These are the people who made America great.

Requiring everyone to punch a time card in order to be able to vote would be the final nail in the USA's coffin. It would essentially exclude the rugged individualists from the process. True, it would cutoff the leeches as well, but only by kicking your best and brightest to the curb along with them. You would end up with nothing but public school-educated drones driving the political process.

There has to be a better way, and even then, now is a very dangerous time to try setting up a new litmus test that excludes certain people. Now that the US government has become big enough to be able to manipulate circumstances to force any people it targets out of the picture, this just is not a good idea.

Plus, it would open up a whole new can of worms the moment a black person, woman, or Native American Indian lost the right to vote. These groups fought hard to win that right and would scream bloody murder if they were forced to go back to the days of being persons non grata. Most likely, the government would only enforce a law like this on white, male voters and give minorities a free pass. It would be totally unfair, but that's politics for you.

There are lots of better ways to go about fixing this. For example, one lobbyist is capable of doing much more damage than 100,000 welfare moms with ballots. If you want to fix what's wrong with the USA, you need to stop wasting your time trying to net minnows and start reeling in the sharks.

If you want my opinion, the current voting system was an intentional method of destroying our nation.

This is what they did:

1. Lowered the voting age.
That accomplished including an entire group of young people who did not have the life experience to make rational decisions. Young people tend to be idealistic, and they are yet unaware of the intentional evil that abounds within the ptb. Younger people are also more easily swayed by rhetoric. This is not a slam on younger folks! We were all there (well most of us) in our younger years.

2. Gave the vote to those who do not own land.
I know all the arguments on this, as I’ve heard them all. Nonetheless, it is a reality that those who have worked toward and accomplished buying their home/farm/(whatever ) are more mature, and can make wiser/more prudent decisions.

3. Started printing ballots in languages other than English.
Let’s face it … if one is unable to read and write the language of our nation, how can they possibly understand the culture of our nation?

I am firmly convinced that all of the above was an intentional destruction of the ideals of our Founding Fathers.
