I want to remind everyone, that this media use of the term "Spill" is pure bullshit. This is a ruptured well, not a rupture container ship. This is a continuing fountain, and not just a 'leak' from some ship.

Tar balls washed ashore at Perdido Key this morning and continue to plague Pensacola Beach for a second day, government officials said at a briefing this morning.
BP expects some 400 workers spread along Pensacola Beach to continue cleanup today.
Pensacola Mayor Mike Wiggins visited Casino Beach this morning and said the tar balls are roughly the size of a hamburger, larger than the half-dollar sized tar balls that came ashore Friday.

IF NOT FOR CONSUMERS DEMANDING PRODUCT, OIL COMPANIES WOULD NOT BE SEARCHING FOR SUPPLY AT ANY COST.

.

Please go sell your car, your bicycle, disconnect all your electricity, and you can't go solar-wind or anyother electricity producing system because at least some part of them all willhave been produced using oil, also empty you medicine cabinet, and get rid of all the plastic in your house and yard, including your eyeglasses if you wear them. Oh, and your computer, do you have any idea how much electrical energy and oil product went into building your computer, ipod, iphone, ipad, walkman, DVD's CDs... etc?

So times I wish the Oil companies would just go completely to a no production mode for an entire year... now that would really wake the entire world up.

Really? It has to be one extreme or the other?

It can't just be 'all things in moderation' and living comfortable lives in balance by cleaning what we mess as we go?
Norway is a good example of sustainable living. They will likely be the model for the rest of the planet when we finally decide it's time for change.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 360796

I'm completely with you in moderation in all things.

Its a learning curve for the human race, and in many ways we are still in the first hour of the first day of kindergarten... and will occasionally really screw things up.. but we do have to make sure we don't burn down the school house and kill ourselves in the process.

Re: TAR BALLS WASHING ONTO NAVARRE BEACH, FL
it still boils down to irresponsibility on the part of the companies that obtain the goods without a sense of conscience or decency.

no matter our level of demand, they could still obtain, distribute and profit from their products WITHOUT causing such destruction and chaos. THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY.

The people who push the collective guilt mindset would happily lay a heavy burden of guilt upon the shoulders of good, hardworking people who have worked in different areas of the oil industry who were only trying to feed their families and be productive members of society. I don't think they need that unjustified burden on top of the other financial and emotional burdens they are about to experience in the months and years to come because of the sheer magnitude of BP's fuck-up.

That's not right.

and now I'll quit hijacking the thread with my politics.. LOL..

:)
 Quoting: Hillcrest

You are correct that there is a way. As I stated, it's been proven in other countries. The only difference is there are inadequate regulations in place in the US.

We must also remember this difficult and unfortunate truth: outside of regulation, companies are only responsible to their shareholders.

I happen to be third generation of an oil and gas supported family. Such a position still does not change the facts.

Back to the beaches: where are the local gov contingency response plans??????

i know, right :(

It probably sounds really silly, but have you ever had SUCH a connection to a place...it just felt like...home?

I think it's partly because I'm a water sign, i feel SUCH peace near big water (like the gulf). Navarre is just so magnificent...it is literally breaking my heart to see it tarnished.

Tessa... This is horrible - and it's going to get so much worse. :(

Jim Tucker reported from Bilderberg that they plan on using this disaster as a stepping stone for their carbon tax... they will surely let it grow and continue until no one would argue against taxing pollution...

Tucker also said that BP is one of their "brothers" and basically... nothing is going to happen to them.

GET OFF MY PLANET YOU SCUM. goaway

it's just deplorable...they have no regard for the lives of the people they're affecting...

or those poor animals that are dying, not to mention the larger predators that will START dying off once the smaller food chain critters are less in numbers...

or the beaches and water that are irreplaceable...

they're going to destroy it all, it's absolutely heartbreaking

:(

British Petroleum has collected 6000 barrels of oil in the first 24 hours of pumping it from a leaking well up to a drill ship, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said Saturday at a press conference. The 6000 barrels is equivalent to about 252000 gallons

No, but apparently our gov did.

I'm not attempting to give BP immunity. I am, however, attempting to get people to look at the bigger picture and at the causes that lead to such irresponsibility.

If we don't fix it at that level (the systemic level); it will happen again. The next time by Shell or Exxon or (insert major oil company responsible only to their shareholders and to a given country's regulations).
