The oil eating organisms consume oxygen as they munch away at the oil, so therefore the net result will be even less oxygen in the atmosphere.
As I understand it, the organisms at the depths of the Atlantic do not consume O2. There isn't much of it down there. I believe they are anaerobic and thrive mostly on sulphate instead...or nitrogen?...don't remember.
Yes, while the oil is on or close to the surface - again, as I understand it, most photosynthesis occurs between surface and about 150 feet down - we could have a massive plankton problem.
