Nearly One Million US Workers Cut Off Unemployment Benefits

Unemployment "insurance" is paid by the EMPLOYER, not the employee ( unless perhaps the person is in a union, and pays into a "strike" fund ).

Employees only pay for 1/2 of Social Security and Medicare, the employer pays the other half.

My point, which went right over your imbecile-IQ head, is that too many people are whining they need gov't. help, but primarily they FAILED to plan ahead.

I stand by my statement that the guy I responded to, is taking NO personal responsibility for his own sorry situation.

I grew up VERY poor, and the MOMENT I got a job, I started SAVING my money, because I did not want to be poor again.

I never owned a car until I was 25, and it was used.

MY point, which stands, is that people who are in need of the unemployment benefits which working for x amount of time grants them are being denied by Congress... the SAME Congress who GAVE AWAY $700B of the American taxpayer's money. The SAME Congress which continues to fund Obama's war machine, despite each of his promises that THIS is the last time he'll dip into the kitty.

I believe that you grew up very poor, and I'm sure that this affords you with a very specific viewpoint. It also affords you a VERY unique arrogance, which isn't uncommon in that situation. Be that as it may, YOU have missed the point of the entire thread, and chosen to make a broad statement based on one individual who seems to have rubbed you the wrong way. So be it.

And I find it interesting that you should decide to try to insult MY IQ... insults in the face of differing opinion GENERALLY point to an inferior intellect. And while I have no need to defend myself, I can assure you that my IQ, for however little it's worth, would most certainly shock you. But then, I don't expect, or care, for you to believe that. The temporary haves can bash the have nots, there can be screaming of "commienism" and failed "socialism" when a lot of these people are proud individuals stuck in an untenable position and would prefer to not be in the position in the first place.

Meanwhile corporate communism is alive and well and flourishes with great enthusiasm.

This is probably not even smart to admit, but I am learning locksmithing at one of those career institutes. I will do what I must and hope it doesn't come down to needing the skill.

I also went to school on UB, because what's the point of looking for a job in a field that no longer has jobs.

Nothing to be timid about admitting. I wish you well. There is something to be said about learning a trade like that. You could take out a yellow page ad, especially if you can do locked in car keys, make yourself available with a pager and you would be amazed how many idiots do that. Myself included.

These numbers are frightening, these people will become hungry mad dogs if nothing is done to counter the looming depression quickly.

Your right. The U.S. is turning back the clock to the turn of the 20th century. Low wages IF you can find a job, long work hours with little compensation. If you resist, your a "trouble-maker", a "lazy bastard". It was a society that had the "elites" and the rest were the "help". Really sad.

I know someone homeless living in a van since December and it breaks my heart. I have nothing to give him since I'm also unemployed and on disability for the time being.

I don't know how to feel about anything anymore. Times like these, you really feel disconnected from spirit and God. It's hard to keep the faith.
