Space Force Chief: U.S. Doesn't Want War in Space, Must be Prepared for It

'He said the U.S. does not want to get into a conflict that begins or extends into space.

"We want to deter that from happening. However, if deterrence fails, a war that begins or extends into space will be fought over great distances at tremendous speeds," Raymond said.

"I am not confident that we can achieve victory or even compete in a modern conflict, without space power," he said. "I am not willing to lose in order to learn. Today the Space Force in answering that call to compete, forging a warfighting service that is always above."

Great post breezy! I’m curious if people who got the flu shot in fall of 2019 might be particularly vulnerable to bad covid infection. Wonder if that baseball team got flu shots?

No, it was a specific person who had a specific name he used for many years. I know it but probably can't say it here. He was pretty revered by his followers, and his accuracy rate was really spooky-high. Claimed he was psychic. I rarely believe those claims... but he was either the real deal or had inside info. Hundreds of thousands of migratory birds found dead in New Mexico, mystifying scientists

While the fires and dry weather in New Mexico may have amplified the number of migratory bird deaths, that still leaves many questions.

The number of dead birds is in the six figures, a university biologist says. (Martha Desmond/New Mexico State University)
Biologists at New Mexico State University are trying to find out why hundreds of thousands of migratory birds have been found dead across the state.

The mystery started August 20 with the discovery of a large number of dead birds at the US Army White Sands Missile Range and White Sands National Monument, according to Martha Desmond, a professor at the university's department of fish, wildlife and conservation ecology.

What was first believed to be an isolated incident turned out to be a much more serious problem when hundreds more dead birds were found in regions across the state. including Doña Ana County, Jemez Pueblo, Roswell and Socorro.

"It's just terrible," Desmond told CNN. "The number is in the six figures. Just by looking at the scope of what we're seeing, we know this is a very large event, hundreds of thousands and maybe even millions of dead birds, and we're looking at the higher end of that."

Dead migratory birds -- which include species such as warblers, bluebirds, sparrows, blackbirds, the western wood pewee and flycatchers -- are also being found in Colorado, Texas and Mexico.

Researchers tie massive Pacific seabird die-off to heat wave dubbed 'The Blob'

Extremely warm ocean waters in the Pacific may be responsible for the deaths of as many as one million North Pacific seabirds, experts say.

Alongside biologists from White Sands Missile Range, Desmond and her team began identifying, cataloging and examining about 300 dead birds on Saturday to learn more about the condition they were in when they died.

Residents and biologists reported seeing birds acting strangely before they died. For example, birds that are normally seen in shrubs and trees have been spotted on the ground looking for food and chasing bugs.

Many were lethargic and unresponsive so they were getting hit by cars, Desmond said, in numbers "larger than ever seen before."

On the missile range golf course, swallows, which are aerial insectivores that don't even walk, were sitting on the ground and letting people approach them, she added.

Thread: Mysterious Black Goo Seeping Out in Venezuela

Is it true that there is a substance seeping up from the ground on a road in Venezuela that no one can identify?

oil-seepage First appearing in 1986 on a highway between the city of Caracas and its airport, La Mancha Negra, meaning literally a black stain, began as an approximately 50-yard (46 meter) long smudge, seen by highway workers who were resurfacing the road with asphalt concrete. Ultimately the spot grew to cover about an 8 mile (13 km) stretch.

In 1991 it was widely reported that the slippery goo had caused over 1,800 deaths and countless other injuries. So what is it and is it still there today?

Maybe Isis.

I dont know if you guys are reporting on the 570+ pilot whales that beached off Tasmania? It's heart breaking. Over 370 of them dead so far, and only 70 saved.

'SOMETHING' is driving them to shallow waters and river inlets.

Pretty close to Antarctica..... I wonder if something is going on down under down under?

So sad seeing the rescue folk's faces in the reports. It's really hard work, and despite everyone's efforts, hundreds are dead.

Spent a minute looking through the goog to find anything on this

Collie exploded much of western oz back in the day

From 1828-1830 he and his crew surveyed much of the territory around modern day Perth

His name is on the plaque

Along with his lieutenant, Bunbury

As well as the Lt. Governor who ordered the survey

Zero references to either the “infrastructure commission” or the “australis project“

The mason symbol was ubiquitous during the empire’s expansion

They were literally fucking everywhere

Not entirely sure, but I’d bet those are survey markers for calibration of charts and maps

Or, as you suggest, something far more...sinister

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
The spread of oil from the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico was far worse than previously believed, new research has found.

As the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history approaches its 10th anniversary in April, a study by two University of Miami researchers shows that a significant amount of oil and its toxic footprint moved beyond fishery closures where it was thought to be contained and escaped detection by satellites as it flowed near the Texas shore, west Florida shore and within a loop current that carries Gulf water around Florida’s southern tip up toward Miami.

In their study, published Wednesday in Science, the researchers dubbed it “invisible oil,” concentrated below the water’s surface and toxic enough to destroy 50 percent of the marine life it encountered. Current estimates show the 210 million gallons of oil released by the damaged BP Deepwater Horizon Macondo well spread out over the equivalent of 92,500 miles.
AD

But the oil’s reach was 30 percent larger than that estimate, the new study says. “Oil in these concentrations for surface water extended beyond the satellite footprint and fishery closures, potentially exterminating a vast amount of planktonic marine organisms across the domain,” the researchers wrote. The findings show that the government’s understanding of how oil flowed from Deepwater Horizon was limited and that it underestimated the extent to which marine life was killed or poisoned by toxic crude.

Delta will likely be the 10th tropical storm or hurricane to landfall in the mainland U.S.

That would break a 1916 record for most mainland landfalls in a season.

Delta would be the fifth hurricane of those 10 U.S. landfalls.
Much of the East and Gulf coasts have been covered by a warning once this season.

Hurricane Delta is likely to be the 10th named storm to landfall in the mainland United States during the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, breaking a record that has stood for more than a century.

Delta is expected to hit the northern Gulf Coast Friday into early Saturday. When it does, the mainland U.S. will have seen 10 landfalls from tropical storms and hurricanes this year since the barrage began in late May.

That would break the 1916 record of nine mainland U.S. landfalls in a season, according to Phil Klotzbach, a tropical scientist at Colorado State University

A rapidly strengthening Hurricane Delta is taking aim at the resort hotspot of Mexico's northeastern Yucatan Peninsula before targeting the U.S. Gulf Coast later this week.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Tuesday afternoon that Hurricane Delta is now a Category 4 storm, packing maximum sustained winds of 140 mph as it is located 260 miles east-southeast of Cozumel moving west-northwest at 16 mph. The storm was upped from a Category 3 to a 4 between 10:50 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. EDT, with forecasters labeling the storm as "dangerous."

"It's really intensified sitting over some very warm water," Fox News Meteorologist Adam Klotz said on "Outnumbered Overtime."

LIVE UPDATES: HURRICANE DELTA RAPIDLY INTENSIFIES, 'EXTREMELY DANGEROUS' CONDITIONS EXPECTED

The storm rapidly intensified overnight from having 80 mph winds into a Category 4 hurricane with 140 mph gales and is expected to strengthen even further as it moves north into the Gulf of Mexico.

"Expected to bring a life-threatening storm surge and extreme winds," the NHC said Tuesday afternoon.
