Instead, crews will review the procedures required for navigation planning, operations, risk management and best practices, while absorbing lessons learned from the Connecticut mishap, SUBFOR spokesman Cmdr. Paul Macapagal told Navy Times. Macapagal said the stand-down is only “near term,” but did not provide a timeline for when the effort will be completed. He's pledged 'prosperity for all'. But China is showing signs of economic fatigue. Evergrande, one of China's biggest real estate companies, is crumbling. One reason is increasing state intervention in the company. With Chinese real estate prices going through the roof, Beijing has decided to restrict lending to real estate companies. The idea was to rein in runaway prices and make accomodation affordable again. The government's insistence on tightening regulations has also affected other sectors. For over a year the Chinese leadership has been introducing new laws and regulations affecting the country's domestic technology platforms. User ID: 56270897 United States 11/22/2021 02:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is such a classic GLP thread, I'm glad to have stumbled upon it again. Quoting: ThirstyMarlin I've not been on this thread for at least a year, so I thought my last comment would be near the end of this thread. But no! This thread keeps alive somehow, and it has grown considerably over the past year it seems. I love that this thread started in June 2010. That's a long time folks! I reviewed the most recent pages quickly, and it also seems the replies can and do get far-off-track. So I'll add a little to get us back on track. I live in Tampa (on the Gulf of Mexico) and I've wondered if a submarine could safely enter the Gulf of Mexico without detection, and is the Gulf deep enough and large enough for a modern military combat submarine to successfully perform? The Gulf is very shallow from Florida going out for 60 miles. The middle seems deep, and the Gulf seems large, but would a submarine patrol the Gulf, other than possibly a military drill or war game gone bad? Maybe a live torpedo was fired instead of the blank. I believe Alec Baldwin could speak to this from personal experience. This thread is also classic GLP because you don't really know what gems you might find in a thread like this. For instance I love the post with all the Fandango Rangers! WOW! Outstanding! I'm snagging those for my library, those are good ones! Let me see, what can I add. Ahhh....my membership just expired (again) so my library of smilies just disappeared. Help! Can anyone help me, my membership depends on green karma. I'll end with a fun Naval Warfare inside scoop and analysis...just for GLP. As you probably know, if a war started with China (for any reason) a large naval battle would be fought, the likes of such we have not seen since World War II in the Pacific. It would be massive and horrendous and fast. But what if China and Russia both have electronic technology that can shutdown a U.S. warship; by disrupting all navigation or shutting down the entire electrical system? That would be bad...huh? Very bad indeed. Proud to be UnV'd There is one constant in life: If you build something worth having, someone will try to take it or destroy it. The action, dubbed "Operation Triple Beam - Third Coast," targeted documented gang members and violent offenders, and sought to identify targets and collect criminal intelligence, the US Marshals said in a statement on Monday. The operation began April 7 and ended September 30. [link to www.cnn.com (secure)] Have no fear, Spock is here!!! LLAP |

User ID: 81178086 United States 12/15/2021 09:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | About twenty-five miles north of Fort Stockton sits what looks, at first blush, like an oasis amid the West Texas desert. When I recently visited what might be Texas’s newest sizable body of water, its color was a pleasant sea green. A flock of ducks circled in the sky above and landed on the choppy surface. Yet Lake Boehmer covers more than sixty acres of scrubland with a noxious brew. You wouldn’t want to sate your thirst with its water, which is three times saltier than the ocean, with a sulfate level twenty-five times greater than legally allowed for drinking. Lake Boehmer belches hydrogen sulfide gas, which at low concentrations generates a rotten egg smell and at higher concentrations kills the occasional waterfowl and causes headaches and nausea in humans. A muddy jetty pokes a couple of dozen feet out into the shallow lake. At its end is a partially submerged cement box around a wellhead. Spouting there is a toxic fountain, a mushroom head of water gushing at two hundred gallons a minute. It first appeared around 2003, though it’s unclear why the water started flowing then, and the lake has been growing ever since. Thanks to bureaucratic buck passing, it shows no sign of stopping. Lake Boehmer flows from one of several abandoned wells near the tiny community of Imperial. Each of these wells appears to have been drilled in the forties or fifties, when wildcatters were plumbing the area in search of oil. Most of their wells came up dry for petroleum, but produced water of decent quality. Rather than plugging the wells, the oil companies deeded them over to landowners. For a time, they were used to irrigate farms, but most appear to have fallen into disuse in the decades since. No one is sure who owns the Lake Boehmer well property. Forty different absentee owners have some shares of the various parcels onto which the lake flows, but the Pecos County Appraisal District doesn’t know for sure who owns what. Locals dubbed the body of water Lake Boehmer after a former landowner, Bernard Boehmer. That’s not an official name, but the term has made its way onto Google Maps. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation tried in 2005 to track down Bernard Boehmer, but sent a certified letter to an address in “O’Fallow, Missouri.” They likely meant O’Fallon, a St. Louis suburb. There’s no record of whether any other letter was sent, or if it reached him. [link to www.texasmonthly.com (secure)] Have no fear, Spock is here!!! LLAP |

User ID: 81178086 United States 12/15/2021 10:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Imperial is in an arid part of Texas, about 50 miles southwest of Odessa. The water – called ‘Lake Boehmer’ in honor of the property’s last known owner – comes up from a set of abandoned oil wells. The lake has grown over the years. Now, it covers more than sixty acres. Russell Gold, a senior editor for Texas Monthly, recently wrote about the lake. He talked to Texas Standard about his visit there, and the lack of regulatory response. Listen to the interview above or read the transcript below. This transcript has been edited lightly for clarity: (Q) Texas Standard: What’s the story here? Where’s this water coming from? Russell Gold: Well, the water’s coming from an old abandoned well that’s pretty much right in the middle of the lake. You can actually kind of walk out on a jetty and see it, and it’s just sitting there flowing off about 200 gallons a minute. This was a well that was drilled in in the 1950s by an oil company in search of oil, and it was dry. And so the oil company turned to the landowner and said, ‘hey, do you want a nice deep well that you can use to irrigate?’ And for as far as we can tell, for years it flowed reasonably decent water. But then at some point the casing started to corrode. The well went bad and it got really salty. It hit a salt layer. And now, Lake Boehmer, as it’s called, is about three times as the Gulf of Mexico. It looks inviting, but you wouldn’t want to get in it. It’s got hydrogen sulfide. It smells. It’s a real mess out there. (Q) That’s the question, right? How has this gone on for so long and no one’s done anything about it? What about property owners regulators? As far as we can tell from the satellite images, the lake has been slowly growing since about 2003. There was a property owner way back, a guy by the name of Bernard Boehmer. That’s why it’s called Boehmer Lake. But the property has been sold since then, and from what I was told, it was sort of sold off to a bunch of people on eBay. Buy your little slice of West Texas. And noone can quite find anyone who is responsible for it. The Railroad Commission, which regulates oil wells, says this has been an oil well since the 1950s. It’s a water well. We don’t have anything to do with it. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality doesn’t regulate, the Water Development Board, no one. No one actually regulates it. It’s as if we’ve discovered a giant loophole in state law that when you have an abandoned water well, that’s leaking, nobody’s actually responsible for it. In this case, it’s going to present a problem because the water is heading down toward the towar the aquifer – the Pecos Valley Aquifer is one of the major aquifers of Texas. So something really needs to be done with this. [link to www.texasstandard.org (secure)] Have no fear, Spock is here!!! LLAP |
