hi there. actually, thoise are some highly interesting points. it is possible that maybe that the USA and North America might have benefited somewhat from having a French region here. but don't forget, at the time, it was Napoleon who was running things, so there was a clear basis for wanting to obtain that region, for the USA's national security.

Howdy,

I'm a US ex-pat but lived all my life in France. I'm talking from the pov of the French. The problem with the French colonies was that it was a drain on Napoleon's war-effort seeing he was solely devoted to war with a passion only an insular from Corsica could foster.

I'm not a scholar on Napoleon , but I read somewhere that at the time he had to cut his losses because England was gaining on him and he had to relocate all his efforts on defending the national borders of France. Defending the colonies was impossible.

But the interesting thing I see from my modern experience as an adult is that lots of Americans are French turned English speakers but originally non-English speakers. Like more than half of North America are (ex-)French territories...if you allow that Canada is a territory where the English parts are sparsely populated and the only heavily populated ones are the French parts. If you then keep on supposing, you take the example of the French parts of the USA, meaning Louisiana.... the Carolinas (they were French) etc.. for a brief moment most of the colonies... were in fact French!

So you can imagine how that would have turned out...but the funny thing is that it remains that way... in a way. The USA's being swamped in Latinos. But there's push-back against that ("buyers' regret" hahaha!) seeing that's mostly indigenous culture which the West has firmly stood up to, in the past - don't want to go there in this post but - enough's been said about primitive faiths versus Christianity etc.. so what I'm saying is that French culture is directly appealing to the US European culture. And... French is the only alternative for English American culture (seeing the Russian and German/Dutch culture in the US is much less widespread...) So my final point is that French is really the only door left available to the USA, to exit into. (unless it goes against it's basic Anglo-Saxon identity) (Unless ....the USA starts talking Chinese like the West Coast lol!)

So, you know (quick flashback to history) the English were invaded by a Frenchie, (who was a grandson of a Viking) called William the Conqueror. Then some centuries later, France was freed by the Allies landing on the Normandy Beaches. But now, I don't see any way we can cross the English Channel to you guys (lol!) and your only way out is for you to pay ("grandma" hahaha!) Celine Dion to tour and teach all of you people.... French lol!!!!!!!!!!!! But no, I'm serious, I see French culture as being the only way for the USA to save it's European identity - or else go tribal and go native.- You guys can't start talking Iranian for crying out loud. And the French remnants are all around the USA, (be it in Canada, Québéc, New Orleans,...etc...the whole Mississippi River was French trading stations) it's all around the perimeter of the East Coast. It's like embers glowing there that can be blown on and rekindled. Btw, if you wondered, I heard that the French introduced slave trade to the Mississippi Valley through Haiti from Africa. It was later terminated, but the French off-loaded their slaves to America. They made a buck on that. And I guess the fall-out/mop-up was left with the Americans. France has always set itself up as an enemy of the brits. Now's the USA's chance to come over to France and join up (seeing the Americans are all basically half French to start out with. )
