when the revolution comes, America will break up into at least 3 different nations so each will have their own rules and laws.

Should be left totally untouched except for three items:

1. Affirmation of the right to keep and bear arms.
2. Clarification of the 10th amendment that ANY power not specifically granted to the federal government is left to the individual states or the people.
3. ABSOLUTE term limits that stop politics from being a career.

Re: When the revolution comes, what will we change about the Constitution?
Our founding fathers never intentioned that holding office would be a full time job. They envisioned that every officer/representative held full time jobs in the private sector, and that their position of authority was to be part time.

So I'd posit that there be a scheduled time of gathering for matters pertaining to government, with a clause for meeting during special circumstances, and that the pay grade runs between $25/day to $100/day, depending on time/experience. I also posit that time limits be enforced, of which 8 years is the maximum in a lifetime for a politician. Make it somewhat like jury duty, where everyone gets a chance (if they are so inclined), but no one wants to make a career out of it. No more lifetime politicians; no more impossibility for Ma Jones or Pa Doe to serve his country...office would be open to any law abiding citizen without having to have a fortune to "run for office".

Also, I posit for it to become a felony if it's found that government officers are taking money (bribes, payoffs) for special interests and pork. On top of the 3 branches, I'd include a 4th branch, which is comprised of citizens of all walks of life, from every state, which would keep an eye out for any and all infringements that the other 3 branches commit. This group, of course, would be voluntary, much like we do here on GLP, watching...but this group would have power to bring charges against anyone in the other 3 branches, and try them in court if the judicial branch isn't willing to do their job. This group would also "score" the President during regular reviews, just like every employee is reviewed in the work place. Also, the President would make a salary based on performance, with a top scale of $100,000 per year. He/she could NOT hold any investments, or have ANY conflicts of interests, etc.

All employees of government (state and federal) would receive no greater than minimum wage, with the exceptions of COL raises, and performance/review wages, with a top scale of $15/hr for those who have proven themselves and have put their time in. Pensions would be based on pay rate, after 30 years of service. No automatic pensions. Benefits would be the same as the majority of benefits in the private sectors.

That would be a start.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1031921

I think term limits would eliminate the need for the 4th branch, because the government would be made up of normal citizens, not professional politicians. Eight years might be good, but how about an elected official cannot succeed himself? That way nobody gets too comfortable in the government. Citizens would run the government instead of the other way around.

remove the general welfare and commerce clauses.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 911697

The interstate commerce clause is needed for the same reason it was 200 years ago. But that is to make the states trade fairly with each other. It really does need to be worded tighter so it cannot be used for all the control issues we have now. Interstate commerce is too important to take a chance on politicians screwing it up, but the law now is being used in way the founders could not have imagined.

 Quoting: OsoSmooth

This is where the clarification comes in. I like our constitution the way it is, but the progressives think it gives them the right to make the government as big as they can make it, and the libtards think it says they have the right to tell us how to run our lives. The 10th amendment went away in 1913. Now they want to take the 1st and 2nd. We need the constitution to be more specific and harder to bastardize.
Politics should never be a career. The founders never imagined that anyone could be a career politician. That comes from being overpaid and under controlled.

Re: When the revolution comes, what will we change about the Constitution?
simple change that no one has mentioned which i cant believe and it will prevent all this bullshit from happening again, violation of constitutional rights are punishable by death .But in order to do this you have to make everyone aware of contract law as contracts supersede the Constitution, this is why you need a driver license .When you apply for a privelege you give up a right in exchange ,but most don't know that..If you read the 14th amendment , it is a constitution unto itself and btw read the 14th closely and you will realize that voting is an act of rebellion against an insurgent government

Re: When the revolution comes, what will we change about the Constitution?
Keep everything but amend the 14th amendment about citizenship by birth.

It should read that citizenship by birth is granted only if one or both of the parents are citizens, either natural born or naturalized. Any woman here illegally claiming the father is a citizen must prove paternity with a DNA test.

Also want a Balanced Budget Amendment that bans congressional earmarks. It is the only way to stop the spending in DC.

I would also add one more amendment:

Senate and Congressional Campaign fundraising will be limited to only the residents of the state those running for office seek to represent.

Presidential campaigns will be limited to 6 months for fundraising and 6 months of actual campaigning. Presidential candidates can only accept funds from individuals and not from political action groups or businesses or lobbyists. Fundraising is limited to 50% public funds and 50% private donations.

All media outlets must provide 10 free half-page ads or one minute slots to each actual candidate in elections for federal offices.

The amount of money that is spent on election campaigns is obscene and corrupt. Our campaigns are far too long which is why they are so expensive.

Let's keep everything else in the Constitution which has stood the test of time and served us well for over 200 years.
 Quoting: anonanon 1032951

I think you heading in the right direction, but what if we made political campaign advertising illegal and only let them debate the other candidates to get their ideas across. No advertising so no contributions, no corporations owning the lawmakers. The debates would be covered like any other news story so people would be able to judge the candidates side by side.

That would be a direct democracy, and it has never worked before, and I don't see it working now. Direct democracy is majority rule on every issue. Sounds good, but it leads to discrimination on every level. That would leave all minorities and handicaps out of any decision making. Sounds great, but it won't work.

1)You need an Amendment added that makes LOBBYING and LOBBYISTS illegal in ANY FORM.

2) You need to have 6 year TERM LIMITS integrated into the Constitution for ALL elected offices.
Working for the government should NOT BE a lifetime job!

3) Any laws they create, they are subject to themselves.
(note recent ObamaCare they ALL are exempt from) grnrolleyes

4) No appointing of "CZARS" (or similar) without SENATE APPROVAL OF ALL OF THEM....on ALL Presidential reporting levels.
Must be accomplished by 2/3 vote.

5) Remove the "Interstate Commerce Clause" in it's entirety.

6) ....and REMOVE NAFTA / CAFTA and their ability to ever create legislation like that again.

...AND
No need to scrap the existing Constitution.
It was created by some EXTREMELY SMART people.....but it just needs to be tweaked and clarified to REMOVE THE LOOPHOLES the NWO Socialist scumballs abuse.

Re: When the revolution comes, what will we change about the Constitution?
repeal the 17th admentment. Choosing senators should be a function of states, not the populace. As orinally planned, the states would have their interests represented separate from the general population. It would curtali 'unfunded mandates' and their use of tax dollars to enforce federal fiats

Are you out of your freaking mind?

The next Go-Around requires More Attention and More Committment By The People, Not Less.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 486149

Recently I have heard some really good arguments for repeal of the 17th amendment, but I'm not convinced. The state legislatures were responsible for choosing our representation in Washington, and we were responsible for choosing them. Sounds like a less direct way of choosing, but it has some advantages. It was originally thought that state representatives were better suited to pick our national reps, and that might still be true. This is a very tough subject that should be studied in depth.

Here is a suggestion that has been around the internet for a while, I forwarded it to my senators and rep a few months ago. I recommend that everyone forward it to DC.
.Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits: 12 years only, one of the possible options below.

A. Two Six year Senate terms
B. Six Two year House terms
C. One Six year Senate term and three Two Year House terms

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

2. No Tenure / No Pension:

A congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security:

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund moves to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, Congress participates with the American people.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, server your term(s), then go home and back to work.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan just as all Americans.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

6. Congress looses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

7. Congress must equally abide in all laws they impose on the American people.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

8. All contracts with past and present congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with congressmen, congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

If you agree with the above, pass it on to all in your address list. If not, just delete..
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
