This story appears in the Globe today. A story concerning the overabundance of "top secret" clearances was a major feature in the NYT last weekend. The Wash Post also has a story this week with a scandal related to the military (can't remember the specifics offhand).

Read the bolded text above. These stories don't just appear organically thanks to the efforts of some tireless reporters. They are all leaked and formulated with the assistance of people within the government.

The Obama administration wants/needs to slash the U.S. military budget. These stories are psyops to soften up the public, so when they need to swing the axe, they can refer to these scandals as a reason.

I don't wish to downplay the horror of child pornography, but understand that the crime is being exploited here for political purposes.
