The best u cando is encourage him to slow down a little. Why stop if you don't have to? Personal responsibility - try it sometime. Quit blaming others for your bad choices. Consequences happen. :enaid11: |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1045156 United States 07/31/2010 11:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | First it's his choice not yours. Second he will quit when he wants to, if he even wants to. I suggest if it's such a problem for YOU then find a new friend. I just stopped after years of using because I felt it was time and because I was afraid of getting caught. Up until this point no one could have MADE me stop |

But he is a friend and I am looking for something from someone who has experience so I can telll him about it. |

User ID: 873257 Canada 07/31/2010 11:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's pretty simple, really. YOU want him to "get the stuff out of his life." But does he? Of COURSE you saying quit doesn't help... the choice belongs to your friend, not you, and until HE decides he wants to stop, he won't. Let's be very clear... marijuana is not physically addictive. If he WANTS to stop, it's less difficult than quitting coffee. You can give him your opinion, you can try to convince him of your point of view, whatever pleases you. But there's no "therapy" or "magic bullet" to make HIS opinions mirror your own. Accept what you cannot change. Who knows? Maybe you can convince your friend of your point of view, someday. But it's a simple choice, OP, not an earth-shattering trial... and as I said, the choice IS his. The power of Linux COMPELS you! |

As I said, the choice is his, exclusively. YOU HAVE NO POWER TO MAKE HIM STOP. It sounds like more of a deflection... "I can't do it, you need to make me stop." That's bullshit and bunk, OP. If he WANTS to stop, he can, and he will. If not, he'll run through every excuse possible to NOT stop, and use up every one. Explain to him that the ONLY addiction is mental, and if he wants to stop, the SUREFIRE method is to remove the spliff from between his lips. The power of Linux COMPELS you! |

User ID: 873257 Canada 07/31/2010 11:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | YOU EVER BEEN ADDICTED TO SOMETHING? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1053737TAKES MORE THAN WORDS AND YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND BETTER IF YOU KNEW WHAT IT WAS LIKE Read carefully... MARIJUANA IS NOT PHYSICALLY ADDICTIVE. If we were talking about a physical addiction, my answer would be much different. If OP's friend is like MOST people, he just doesn't WANT to stop, and is making excuses. If, however, he actually has an addictive personality and has fixated on weed, there is ALSO nothing that can be done, except in his own mind. Either way, the answer is the same. If he has a mental issue (strongly addictive / compulsive personality) then a psychiatrist MIGHT be in order. And again, STILL not something OP can do, unless he happens to have a psych degree... right? The power of Linux COMPELS you! |

Quoting: hello 1054364Me just saying quit, doesnt seem to help at all. He thinks he is getting wisdom from it, but actually he isnt. What was your experience after giving up, so I can tell him. Thanks in advance for your help! To be honest, I was a pretty regular smoker for nearly 20 years. And I was/am a professional business woman! There are those who don't get wasted and live like Cheech and Chong, but see it as the same as those who want a beer every now and then. And I have to ask you if this is effecting his life, or you just 'think he should quit?' Because for me, I just replaced it with other addictions that were far worse physically and destructive than pot. Why do you think he should stop? I'd much rather smoke a toke or two every few days (and had times it was much more) than battle pain pill addiction or something similar. I can/could handle putting down when necessary, but Xanax was a whole 'nother story. What I was told was to go to the doctor and so they gave me meds. Meds that were physically addictive whereas pot isn't. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1013637 United States 08/01/2010 12:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Pot is extremely addictive, and will eventually kill him if he isn't careful. My sister's boyfriend died of a toxic marijuana overdose right in the ER. It will kill your friend OP, please do whatever it takes to make him stop...even if you have to call the cops on him tonight! do it now! |
