Same thing this morning at sunrise, very odd yellow light....First thing I thought of was the fires, over 400 of them now.... Quoting: crazycanuck 1000602Hi neighbours in Bellingham!!!! I guess that must be it. But you'd think the news would have some information about such a heavy haze affecting even lower mainland / Island... ah well. Thank you all, and howdy neighbors! They could be the culprit? I always thought the prevailing winds/ airstream traveled eastward... |

Well, this is why I was a bit curious... in my eight years here, with worse fires, never seen an effect like this one. The power of Linux COMPELS you! |

Pollution from China. According to weather sats, smoke should be going north-west from the fires [link to www.weatheroffice.gc.ca] |

Hi crazycanuck, we were in Whistler weekend before last, there were big signs everywhere about the fire danger. I guess we picked the right time to go, because there've been a few in the vicinity there. We saw helicoptors dropping water on mountaintops, but I don't know if they were practicing or what. There wasn't a fire where they were dropping the water. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1016390 Canada 08/04/2010 07:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In Calgary. Every thing is changing. And fast. Just look at the weather, the sun, the c trails, and on and on. giddie up! 2012 Hi there! Quoting: MountainTuxOn Central Vancouver Island we're having an odd sort of day. VERY hazy and humid, and the sunlight is odd, a sort of brownish-orange that brings out yellows and browns very starkly. Even my mother-in-law, of all people, commented that the sun looked VERY odd this morning, more dark orange than anything, but VERY bright. I'm trying to figure out if we're getting a smoke haze from the wildfires in the Interior, as that would make sense (sort of smells smoky too) but I can't find any information or facts to prove or disprove this. Anyone in the lower mainland / Van Isle seeing this effect? Thanks in advance! |

That could be what you saw. I have a buddy who works fire crews who has told me they do practice drops in / around Whistler, also up around Golden Ears outside of Maple Ridge, but I can neither confirm nor deny 100%. Haven't seen such in eight years, in worse fire years, nor have many who have been here longer than me. Likely just an odd confluence of weather patterns, I guess. The power of Linux COMPELS you! |

Howdy neighbor! :) Wow, and I'm not far at all... small world! Cool... :) I was just looking outside, real hazy and muggy out today. Then I noticed the sun was somehow illuminating off the neighbors house. Hmm....how can the sun break through that haze, and how come we can see the sun at all in a haze like this? Also, last evening at sundown, i was on my way home and ive never seen the sun that huge, that shimmering florescent orange before. Kinda spooked me, knowing about the CME's. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." ~KrishnaMurti ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "The lie tastes sweet at the beginning, but bitter at the end. User ID: 1050756 United States 08/04/2010 08:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wish there was more of a breeze here. I've noticed when it's very very still, clouds of weird odors linger and don't dissipate. The worst is those awful Bounce dryer sheets. A few weeks ago we had some nights where there was zero air movement. It was kind of overwhelming. Also I smelled cooking smells from a Japanese restaurant nearby which I have never smelled before or since. Makes me grateful for the breeze, but there is barely a breeze now. Oh! I suppose no wind is the best we could hope for with these fires though! So I should not complain about weird laundry smells. |

That's what was pointed out to me this AM, same sun effect. And yes, was just outside, and it's kind of... eerie looking. Everything is cast in orange, so the SHADOW my back deck posts cast look like normal patches in orange dust. Neat effect but, as I said, eerie. And I did finally find an article saying the smoke was funneling down the Fraser valley, expect this for the next fifteen hours or so. The power of Linux COMPELS you! |
