The diet I followed for years was similar to Atkins diet, except that I ate a cheese sandwich at lunch and had protein meals for breakfast and dinner. The rule I followed was more based on another diet theory I'd read about at age 17 and followed ever since, that you should never mix carbs and proteins/fats at same meal or within 4 hours. Bread and cheese was fine, bread, milk, together etc, fine. But meat and potatoes, No, meat and bread, no. Meat by itself with salad greens or vegetable, yes, but not meat and fruit at same meal. Eggs, butter, sausage, bacon together fine, but no toast, cereal or hash brown potatoes. Citrus juices only with the meat meal, not with the carb meal. Whole fruits with cereal and toast, yes. If you have cereal and toast, then no butter or cream. It was very natural and simple to follow. It eliminated having gas, and I never had a weight problem.
