Is it possible that he faked his death? He was talking about "getting out before it's too late"....and he is a banker with powerful information supposedly right? Isn't it plausible that he could have used his "death" to go into hiding?

Very important in light of the report of "drowning" that the water in Matt's lungs be checked against the water in his hot tub to determine that it is the same water.
