“Our conclusion that the event caused no health impacts to our workers or the community is based on real-time data from scientific instruments maintained by both BP and external parties,” Casey wrote.
Still, while informed of the compressor outage on April 6, city officials were not made aware of the extent of the emissions event until June 4. The city’s director of homeland security said in a meeting last week with BP officials the city emphasized the need of better sharing of information about what takes place within the refinery.
