I have a relative who is a rural postal carrier and retired USAF. He held classified positions withing SAC. He laughs his ass off every time some posts this nonsense and so do I!

I don't even have a sticker so I'm really screwed!

Letter boxes, are federal, and have federal laws protecting them. It is against the law to place any kind of sticker on a letterbox.

I just finished my route of 400 home delivery papers. I put yellow/orange for 7 days a week, red for fri., sat., and sun., and green for sun. and wed. (the big grocery ad day which is today and sux to put together and deliver). There are like 3 out of 400 that take the damn things off because of rumors like this. I then hide them on a tree or something. At night, all boxes look the same and most do not have numbers. Only way we can tell on crowded streets. A few people who got fired took ALL their dots off their routes which leaves hell for the next person doing it.

went for a drive around the rural colorado area I live in. The outermost homes in the valley have mostly red stickers....this side of the interstate has virtually none. I did find yellow, orange and blue as well over there. Seems like an awful lot of work for delivering newspapers. We have few neighbors around us, mostly farms, but the people getting newspapers don't have stickers. the postal driver knows nothing about this.

I've never had papers delivered. (Here they set up separate paper boxes anyway and don't use your mail box - even if you have the kind with a built-in place for newspapers.) I've found the stickers stuck to my mailbox before. I pull them off, not because of any conspiracy, but just because they are ugly. Every once in awhile another will show up and I'll take it off. Could be the kids waiting on the bus who move them around - who knows. But, I've never thought of it as anything malicious.
