Do you transport it in your car or have it by your front door? What about the legality (now) of toting that pistol around in it? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1063262Also, why Bic lighters & not matches or magnesium fire starter? Weight I havent done ...perhaps I should. As to transport yes ...it comes with me when I leave the house. Legality is ok Texas has CHL. Bic lighters simply because they last a long time. magnesium fire starter would be nice but I think I could get by on the lighters. 1:1.618 ratio |

Its more efficient in the sense that you set a trap and walk away ...you can set 10 traps that will each ''hunt'' for you while you go do other things. 1:1.618 ratio |

Quoting: PaddyIt makes more sense to me to simply 'go home' and lock the door. I think you are much more vulnerable running or hiding in a forest. What would you be running away from or towards? Why would the police or any federal agency want you? In Post apocalyptic situation I would not want to be in Houston texas as the city will erupt in violence. No police or federal agencies want me. I do not understand that remark. 1:1.618 ratio |

User ID: 912389 United States 08/29/2010 01:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Great ides for a bug out bag, but I seriously question the items you have chosen. Is your pack is sturdy enough for what you may throw at it in a Bug-out situation. Have you started putting together a bug-out plan? One thing you should consider is what use you will be getting from the pack - are you looking at a 72 hour kit, or more? Do you have somewhere you are bugging to? Do you think you may need to carry cooking gear / tent / weapons? Determining what you need the bag to do, is really the first step. Then get the bag and contents to match. Trust me on this Please consider the following: Tools: Military Folding shovel 100' 550 para-cord Cold Steel Bushman Gerber Multi-Tool with spare saw blades Heat resistant work gloves Ziplock bags Rubber bands Whistle with small red LED Hat clip light with spare batteries LED Head band light heavy duty trash bag Large drawstring bag Knife sharpener Fire: Bic Lighters Zippo Lighter and Fuel (can run on gasoline) Tinder (vaseline coated cotton balls) MSR pocket rocket stove w/ 2 fuel Food: 4 cliff bars 4 MRE combination fork/spoon Water: Coffee filters Katadyn Hiker pro water filter pump Micropur MP-1 water purification tablets 3 liter Camelbak Shelter: Military casualty blanket Military poncho Emergency blanket Tent stakes Lightweight shoot through Camo blind Sleeping pad (optional) Various clothes (seasonal) Mosquito net (seasonal) Army gortex ECWS sleeping bag (seasonal) Other: Boots Baby wipes Toothbrush Deoderant Scent block Sandals Compass Topographical map GPS Dynamo radio Prepaid Cell Phone with atleast 2hrs talk time Small bottle of dish soap 3 29rnd Glock magazines Streamlight TLR-1 Collapsible baton Bug spray (seasonal) Sunscreen (seasonal) Medical: CAT tourniquet Israeli trauma dressing Roll of Kerlix (gauze) 12 Bandaids 12 alchohol wipes Medical tape Moleskin Basic meds (motrin, tylenol, flexeril, lopermide, benadryl, azithromycin) Hunting/camping: (seasonal) Survival Fishing kit Slingshot and ammo Worn items: Colt Commander (my concealed carry) Gerber Multitool Hats Sunglasses Watch Cell phone and spare battery (I actually have two 'disposable' cells on diffrebt carriers than my main cell in case of carrier issues) Chapstick this is the basic stuff. I have GHB's BoB's as well as SHTF gear bags. More if you want it... yes I have a bug out plan. Im going towards a safer less populated area towards a national park or state park. as to the specifics...My pack is a sturdy one... the sort of pack I have was designed with Encumberance in mind. I have walked many many miles with it. In any apocalyptic situation I believe the ability to actually carry your gear will be tantamount. Why? Ecause given the different scenarios the basic ideaologies of reaction from said situation will be on containment. If uncontainable then pandemonium ensues. Hence quarantine zones etc. I have listed the best to my knowledge items ''worth their weight'' in gold. My pack is intended to allow me to escape said zones with little difficulty. but from the ensuing breakdown of society ...well a freight train loaded with survival gear will do you no good. my goal with a BoB is to simply get out of dodge...and survive for a few days....anything longer and caches are needed imho. 1:1.618 ratio |

I wrote a thread on the logistics equation before.... it should still be in GLP's database. But for the sake of argument.... We've got some land outside to go to with an RV trailer but it gets damn cold up here in the winter. Maybe build some kind of rough log cabin out there, you think we still have some time before it all comes down? |
